You shouldn't hold that as a factor in term of vocal ability tho. I believe that is just a difference in their artistry, just like Florence doesn't sing Gaga songs the same way. Also Florence's songs has an poetic element tailored for her, like how a rap song is written based specifically on the rapper experience.

I would place Gaga above Florence in technique but I love love love Florence's tone and the choices she made with her phrasing.

Sorry for the rant

I get it. Maybe i'm just obsessed with Florence lately and i kinda prefer her voice :vegas:

Those websites are often poorly maintained and by dramatic gays with just a hair of vocal and music training :emma:

That being said, her technique isn't as good as Gaga's in many ways, but at the end of the day they are both effective at what they do and its very subjective.

No. Florence has a very distinctive and beautiful voice but flawed from a technical point of view.

Ooh I try and respect other people's opinions but there's some slander at Florence in this thread

OT: Yes and no. I think Gaga is more versatile in that she's able to change her voice so much to adapt to different styles but whilst it is one of the most powerful voices in current music, I think Florence's packs more of a punch a lot of the time. While Florence might not be as versatile in the way she can change the way she sounds, the power and emotion she commands when she sings is enormous. She does otherworldly like no body else in my opinion.

Two of the best vocalists in the game imo, Hey Girl is a gift

It’s weird cuz Florence’s voice sounds like her speaking voice, which is rare for trained singers.

Anyways, I just don’t see the need in creating threads like this. It just generates unjustified hate toward other artists compared to Gaga, especially on something subjective like this.

OT but I will never forgive them for Hey Girl.

Florence and Gaga is a once in a lifetime experience I never imagined would happen. And they SQUANDERED it on that repetitive mush with weak lyrics and that flat tacky synth instrumental.

Ugh it should have been exquisite. Why...

Unpopular opinion: Gaga has amazing vocals but this fan base is delulu and overrates it above everyone

There's many other artists I think vocally outshine Gaga.

Gaga is in the top 20% for sure but it's not like she's the queen of vocals

Adele, Christina, Whitney Houston are a few examples. I don't know about Florence cuz I haven't heard enough of her vocals to say

I will give Gaga the reign in versatility tho as hardly anyone has shown singing so many types of genres well (at least that they showed)

But versatility is still just one category

Yeah but for some reason i don't think Gaga can sing Florence's songs the same way she does :huntyga:

and Florence cannot sing Gaga's songs quite the same way either.    Both are actual musical artists that use their voices for song interpretation.    People get wrapped up in technical aspects such as ultimate range, but  that stuff rarely matters.   For a vocalist the number one criteria is now they make the listener feel about a song, and Florence and Gaga both excel.   There is no reason to try to claim that one is better than another, their voices are different but they both use them well.

I admire Florence's unique tonality and the fact that she naturally has a voice that can't be mistaken for anyone else's.

Having said that, she is  pitchy, her vibrato is way too erratic, and there is a lack of sturdy technique that just doesn't sit well with me. I can understand why many enjoy her though, and she puts her soul into everything she sings.

Gaga, on the other hand, has the same passion and knows how to control it and can adapt to many different styles.

I didn’t mean to generate hate and i know the two fandoms are very supportive towards each other so i didn’t even expect hate tbh

Both Gaga and Florence have strong vocals so we cant really compare them in a technical manner as they are in entirely different genres of music and vocal styles as well as musical backgrounds. Gaga is a primarily pop-based artist but can lend her voice to other genres as demonstrated and Florence is an alternative rock artist and has lent her voice to other genres as well, but largely in the alternative community. Both do what suits them. As this is a Gaga fan site, almost everyone is going to predictably say Gaga due to a slight but undeniable increase in "stan culture".

But in my personal opinion of who I would gravitate to on voice and voice alone, Florence is my choice. Even Gaga herself said that Florence has one of if not the greatest voice in the world at the moment. I may be a bit bias as I have followed Florence's career a lot deeper and closer than I have Gaga's as I dropped away a bit in wake of ARTPOP and its era as it felt unauthentic to me at the time. I returned full force upon her AHS amnouncement. Do not even try to come for me.

Florence's singing voice is totally different from her talking voice for one - almost like a rabbit becoming a lion (O.G. reference) so it is instantly an impressive thing on that alone. Her voice is so powerful and smooth and she almost never hits a flat note or cracks. She can hold a note for almost 30 seconds at least without wavering in power or tune. Her voice has that unique factor that almost sounds royal to me, and ever since 2015 her vocals have noticeably increased in power tremendously to the degree there is a noticeable shift between Ceremonials and How Big How Blue How Beautiful.

I will say that, althought Hey Girl is a fabulous song and duet, Florence outsang Gaga without even trying to, be this that the song didnt suit both of their voices or that they are unfairly matched. When the chorus comes in, Gaga sounds as if she's struggling to keep up with Florence as her voice sounds a bit strained - especially with the "we dont need to keep on one-in' up another". It isnt as smooth as it could have been and borders on pitchy or a voice crack.

All that said, Gaga and Florence are entirely different artists with entirely unique voices and vocal styles, but when forced to compare or answer this question, Florence does have more to bring to the table IMO.
