I was wrong about Billie Eilish

Unique /= Good

I think the album has several MAJOR flaws but by no means is it a bad debut album for an artist. There's certainly a lot of talent behind the production on her brother's part and she can definitely develop a successful career if she keeps pushing the boundaries. I see her ending up like Charli XCX - she's gonna fade away from the immediate public eye in 1-2 years but remain prominent in the underground.

Yes! I should’ve ended my post urging other skeptics/“haters” to give her another listen...I think a lot of people are put off by how different her music is along with the huge amount of hype she has rn

This was exactly me, then I decided to objectively listen and watch her videos, etc.

Shes great.

I love Billie, her music, and videos but her fashion sense hurts my brain. I hate it.

I really really like Billie! She seems witty and down to earth! her debut is masterfully produced considering it's largely just her and finneas writing and mixing everything! ....But she is the most gen z person I've seen!!! It's like being introduced to a new species like.... never bought a CD...it's so crazy to me!. Also her younger fans act like she invented a beat transition into another song and it kills me 😂

I gave her a try and I’m not impressed. I dislike her soft singing/whispering and her downbeat, mellow production. It feels less like she’s doing her own thing and more like she’s giving in to a trope that is common in current popular music. She’s taking the “whisper pop” sound to the extreme.

Compare that to Lorde with Pure Heroine; it was artful and it was unique for its time. It had beauty and it conveyed a message. Now, in 2019, that style isn’t unique anymore. Billie is just copying Lorde and yes she’s getting all the credit for it. I miss music that had hard beats, hard vocals, strong choruses, and catchy melodies.

Lorde is a much better lyricist in my opinion. Although I do really rate Billie.....and art is subjective. I don't think being similar in style means your "copying" exactly,....inspired maybe!
