I mean the aesthetic/mood is very impressive looking. But the story looks....lame? Is this meant to be a superhero movie, or more of his bio? I just enjoy the superhero aspects of Batman and was expecting more elements of that I guess. It looks very real to me.

Exactly! And even if this rendition is wildly popular, how do they implement this style of Joker into a Batman film without completely trashing the aesthetics of the Joker film which is seemingly not comic book-ish at all.

The thing that was scary about the Joker in The Dark Knight was that we knew nothing of his origin, we didn't know where he came from and who he was. I don't think that can be beat along with Heath Ledger's brilliant performance. However, Joaquin Phoenix is a very talented actor, so I have hopes after watching the trailer that this could become the second best Joker around. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.

How they explain 2 different jokers in the same universe I'll never know :saladga:

From what I’ve heard, I don’t think that the DCEU is moving forward the way it once was. They’ve adopted the name “The Worlds of DC”, which sort of implies, to me at least, that the movies aren’t going to be as connected as they once were. Patty Jenkins even said that Wonder Woman 1984 is going to be a “standalone movie”.

Well, it is a comic book film, obviously since it’s the Joker and it’s based in Gotham, however, I think with this movie in particular, they really want to make it more of a character study than a traditional comic book film.

I get what you’re saying, but I actually really like the idea of making the Joker more realistic (and dare I say, a little sympathetic). The Joker has always been one of my favorites villains because of his weird and twisted psychology, and I kind of like that they are looking to explore that in a more realistic setting.

I can't stand that WB and DC can't make something stick. They just introduced the world to a tattoo'd, silver grilled, punk Joker and now they are going with old bullied outcast Joker who snaps.

Pick. A. Canon. Stick. With. That. Canon. Please.

I think that they’re doing away with a cinematic universe. I think that they’ll mostly focus on standalone films and then maybe one day transition into a cinematic universe.

Honestly though I’m totally fine with them changing up their canon. BvS was okay, Justice League was sort of a mess, Man of Steel was okay, Suicide Squad was also kind of a mess, etc., etc. I just want to see quality movies, at this point I don’t necessarily care if there’s an extended canon. Just focus on making good movies and then maybe, if you want, bring them together.

It's not part of the DCEU :)

It looks interesting, a bit like Gotham version of the Joker, more clowny and with followers and a cult..

But idk, without Batman it looks empty.. they complete each other in the craziness in some sense.

And it's using the cliche of "evil is made and not born", which is a bit boring for me..

That makes no sense to revamp a character that was so recently introduced in another film...

Why even make this movie then? I'll probably watch but just...no batman either?

Aka they gave up on trying to model the DCEU as Marvel 2.0 cuz they flopped hard on their strategy and introduction of characters. Even Batman will be someone else soon with Ben gone...what a mess

I got goosebumps watching that  I was beginning to get tired of the overuse of this Joker character..

It's the opposite actually. Zack Snyder's vision didn't stick when they wanted to make another "Dark Knight" set of movies, so now they're making Marvel 2.0. See: Aquaman and Shazam.

I think this Joker movie will be its only standalone DC movie.

Yeah it's messy, it was messy since the beginning.. there are so many unique DC universes at the same time.

DCEU

Arrowverse (Supergirl (different Superman is there), Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow)

Titans universe that includes Robin (different Batman is there) and soon Doom Patrol (different Cyborg is there)

Gotham universe (different young Bruce Wayne with different Gothan villains)

And now we can add the new Joker universe without Batman so far.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Luv u Sum

It has a more art house vibe to it that "super hero" movies stay away from and I really dig it!

DC movies always have great trailers tho and the movies rarely match up but I'm still hyped to see it

In before Marvel fan boys will be like "too dark, too serious, we can only handle funny low brow comic book movies"

On topic: it looks great. I can't wait to see it

Why don't you focus on your cute DC movies instead of trying to come for coming for Marvel? Everyone, including the GP and movie critics, didn't like and trashed the Snyder movies. And also I don't see how you can categorise Wonder Woman, Shazam and Aquaman as "dark, serious and highbrow". The insecurity is real, but drag I guess.

OT: it looks okay but I wish Warner would stop stop the Batman ****-sucking and serve something different

who will love me when the night is over

Well yeah, they gave up on it, but I think that differentiating themselves from Marvel is nothing but good. After all, you really just can't copy/match Marvel's success; you might as well make your own. If they're doing more standalone movies, then that's great for them.

Did you feel attacked? If so, I'm sorry.

I like Marvel movies and I like DC movies, I'm not insecure at all:).

What I was trying to make fun of, is the things Marvel fan boys always criticize DC for, which is that it's too dark and serious. Also I definitely would never call Aquaman or Shazam "highbrow" or "dark".
