Katy Perry

Katy Kat has supposedly not one but two unreleased albums floating around somewhere. One of them went on to make up part of her proper pop debut One Of The Boys, while the other, known to fans as (A) Katy Perry simply wasn't quite right to launch her on the worldwide stage, and got chucked unceremoniously in the bin. Some songs did make it elsewhere, however; most notably Hook Up, which became I Do Not Hook Up and a hit for… Kelly Clarkson, of course.

Madonna

Madge is famous for changing things up if she gets bored, and once she even gave up on an album halfway through. After working with him on Erotica, Madonna got back in the studio with Vogue mastermind Shep Pettibone to record her sixth studio album. They got quite far along the way, before Madonna decided she'd rather go down an R&B route and so it was buh-bye to Shep and hello to Nellee Hooper and Babyface and the album that would become Bedtime Stories.

I wanna know what happened to Katy’s original “dark” idea for Prism... the album she wrote after her divorce. Would also like to hear the original songs/concept for Gaga’s scrapped album ideas.

I love Katy's versions of Kelly's songs

She should really go back to that California 00s pop punk sound

The scrapped Britney album in 2005 and Iggy's Digital Distortion from 2016 are some other examples :duck:

Reject False Icons

I liked your idea, we could talk about all of the popular unreleased albums, there are quite a few with a more than interesting story.

i believe some of the songs from that "dark album ideas" were included on the second half of prism (ghost, by the grace of god, choose your battles, it takes two, this moment)

It would have been interesting to see what Katy would've done with the darker theme that she originally intended for Prism and see if it was mainstream dark or genuinely strange dark. I've also wondered if the long gap between Prism and Witness was because the direction kept changing. Genuinely had no idea that Madonna was making a different kind of album before remaking it into Bedtime Stories. Considering that she must have been working on it just after Erotica, seeing as it only got released 2 years later, she made very light work of album making. Usually, it's long gaps between albums that suggest a turn-around.

I also believe that Xtina was working on something quite different before she released Liberation last year. That album took her 5.5 years to make, her longest wait ever, yet it only had 11 tracks on it, not including several interludes. She's made longer albums in a quicker amount of time, which suggests she had an original idea and scrapped it as we hear she was working on new material as far back as 2014 and she said she was working with Pharrell (he never ended up being any part of Liberation) and that it was "coming along nicely." I can't but think that she wanted to work with him after he had a huge comeback with Blurred Lines and Happy, but when he faded out after that, she realised his name didn't have the same clout. Ariana's Dangerous Woman album might also have sounded very different had Focus been the lead single as intended and had been released in 2015, as intended and I sometimes wonder if she was trying to recreate the sound of My Everything with the original plan. But we got her best album out of the re-jigging due to Focus not being a huge hit, so I'm not complaining! Prince was rumoured to constantly be close to finishing albums many times and then scrapping them and putting them in his famous vault. And suffice to say, I don't think we'll ever see ARTPOP Act 2.

Madonna has changed directions many times.  Before going for the electronic sound for Ray of light, she had written a few songs with Babyface, but most of them were scrapped because it was bedtime stories 2.0 :)
