I'll pass. He may be gay, but that shouldn't be the only factor. Hardly "progressive." Supports interventionist wars and doesn't support a Medicare For All system. As a former soldier and supporter of war in Iraq/Afghanistan, I'm sure he'd push for an increase in the military budget as well. I think he should hold off and gain more impactful policy experience of a higher office before running for or attaining the office of President. Mayor of a minor city shouldn't really cut it at this point. He's a bit too conservative for my liking - gay or not.

He also doesn’t seem to have much baggage, is very policy driven, likeable, and very direct. 

He is also everywhere recently. 

He isn’t an extreme leftist and doesn’t come off as unlikeable like some of the centrists running.

Wow, thanks for sharing. I live overseas, so I hardly know too much about a candidate's policies. This is indeed something to consider for voters.

This is not true, he supports single-payer. He doesn't support it as a direct alternative to what we have now because he knows we can't just jump to single-payer from day 1.  He does think it should be the end goal, though.

He's the only Democratic candidate that has announced who I've been genuinely excited about (and would likely vote for).

Yeah, from the interviews I've seen of him, he is advocating (if I recall correctly) that Medicare be offered as an option to everyone on the free market. The idea is that if Medicare can provide superior quality healthcare for the general public, individuals will naturally gravitate towards it. Like you said, if it ends up being a superior system in the US, he thinks Medicare-For-All will be the end result.

Progressive policies poll very well in the Midwest and people like Sanders are currently polling far ahead of Trump in Midwestern states. It's not about progressive vs conservative. It's about the economy. Which is why Trump won in the Midwest, why Clinton lost (tied to NAFTA/TPP), and why Trump would lose (selling out) and Sanders would win.

Literally nobody says we should jump to it from day one. It's a phase in, but one that should be done as fast, if not faster than how the ACA was rammed through Congress. But if you start with small steps, it's been proven more conservative Democrats will capitulate to conservative Republican demands and we get less than we deserve.
