I never thought I'd see someone using that bs "purity test" rhetoric to dismiss allegations of harassment, but... wow.

It's not too much to ask for the democratic nominee for president not to have a history of touching and kissing women without their consent.

It is a purity test. I just happen not to think these allegations are more serious than what they have in office currently. What it comes across as to me is that hyperfocus on these allegations (should Biden run and make the Democratic candidate) or on any shortcomings of the other candidates will provide media fodder for dragging them through mud during election season, which will help Republicans in turn. They don't have the tendency to dissect their own candidates down to every behavioural pattern in the way Democrats do. Whether that is right or wrong is one thing, the fact it helps them in elections is indisputable. It's why foreigners like myself won't be surprised if Trump gets elected again. Simply pointing that out does not equal dismissing allegations.

I don't know if you know this, but there are plenty of other candidates running on the the Democratic side with better records, more progressive platforms and that don't have a record of kissing and touching women without their consent.

And the idea that we should ignore allegations like this because the Republicans do is pretty stunning.

Which is why I specifically said "if" Biden happens to become the candidate of choice, which I personally doubt but believe it's possible. And let me repeat, the other candidates each have plenty of baggage themselves, even the fan favourite Sanders has his fair share of criticism for a myriad of reasons. Everyone is being dissected like frogs in a lab, this isn't new.

No one is telling you to ignore allegations. The idea is rather that voters' focus should not be so easily swayed by hyperfocus on and exaggeration of less serious behaviour like this at the expense of losing the election altogether, specifically when the rival is a criminal who threatens his own country's stability.

Bottom line is if it gets down to Biden, then these smaller incidents will  become a major right-wing talking point, and possibly contribute to Trump's re-election. The bigger picture matters too.

Or maybe this incident is too insignificant/inconclusive to ruin someone's entire career or campaign?

Since when kissing someone's head is now considered sexual assault/harassment? Maybe his intention was to encourage her and he didn't have a dirty mind like the others?  I mean if we want to be technical, patting someone on the back is also unwarranted contact and thus can be considered assault. Look how far that slippery slope can take us. Based on this flawed logic, it's better to not make any bodily contact at all with anyone to avoid being accused of improper behavior.

Yeah, but there will be something creepy, questionable or off putting about everyone. Bernie has the whole loser until he was forty, deadbeat dad, rape fantasy story, support of dictators deal going on.  Cory supported big Pharm. Beto was a drifter, a moderate and doesn’t have policies. Pete is a Warhawk, I guess...IDK. Warren claimed to be a NA. Harris was a cop and slept with men, or something. Klobuchar ate a salad with a comb and is a tough ass mean boss.

Not everyone is interested in more progressive platforms. Over fifty per cent of Democrats and Democratic leaning Independents are moderates.

If someone is guilty of actual abuse, either physical or sexual, I would consider that to be a deal breaker for me. The rest of the issues and problems that people are concerned about are only important to me in the primary...possibly. Past that, none of the above would exclude me from voting for them over Trump, if they were to become the nominee.
