Beyonce isn’t vocal or outwardly emotional, but she does what she can, and has become WAY more active in the social media age unlike others *coughcough* TS. She’s posted about gay rights and issues, given interviews, and supported the community. Sure, she could do more, we all could. But it’s not like she’s been silent. She’s no Gaga when it comes to the gays, but she has been an ally. How old are you? Beyonce didn't show ANY support for the gays until 2013, but she's been active since 1997. The first 16 years of her career... aka the entire time the fight for marriage equality lasted... she was SILENT.
Mr S 8,781
Beyonce is not the best choice but she isn't that far off from previous winners. Jay-Z, on the other hand, does not belong there.

Zander 14,944
Good for her, I guess. I admit she hasn't always been the most vocal about her support for the community but beggars can't be choosers. I'm always surprised that Beyonce is seen as such a gay icon. I'm just glad I stan someone that is actually a gay icon.

Huge difference from being an LGBT icon. diana’s advocate

I guess I meant that to me an icon, especially someone thats classed as a "gay icon" is one that as well as being an ally is one who consistently supports our community with the work they do, the words they say (not just conveniently at LGBT related things) etc... I appreciate the work Beyonce has done for our community it was just personally a surprising choice.
Thotiana 872
Complain if they’re not your allies. Complain if they are. Humans, regardless if sexuality, can still be trash. It’s not about what she said in 2003. It is whether she evolved or not. She clearly did. Why Gaga doesn’t have one yet? Perhaps because everybody just assumes that she’s a bisexual woman. Serial Chiller 8,044
I mean, Beyonce is rightfully an african american icon and a women’s rights icon but to attribute LGBT stuff to her. nnnn I don’t know. You can’t just be every icon and Beyonce has, at best, been mildly supportive, admittedly when everyone’s already on the ship.
adamsenigma 9,520
Y'll are too damn annoying. Why do you all care so much if she's not really an ally? She's one of the most iconic and most important musical figures in history and she's supporting the LGBTQ community, she had a gay uncle that died from HIV, an uncle she loved, and her husband has a mother who's a lesbian, and they love her so much. Yet here you are complaining. Bey is not Gaga when it comes to LGBTQ issues, just like Gaga is not Bey when it comes to PoC issues, but I bet my ass you would be praising the **** out of the situation if Gaga would win an award like this one for her support towards black people. I don't know why y'all are ALWAYS looking for a reason to hate on Beyoncé, ever since she trully peaked, since she started getting all the recognition she deserves as a performer, most of y'all can't even hear her name without saying something negative about her, just like with every other artist that gers more succesful, relevant and impactful than Gaga. This site really is toxic AF and it saddens me how instead of celebrating the fact that high profile icon is being awarded with a LGBTQ award some of you are turning all of this into something negative. ALGAYDO 34,121
I'm sorry, but could they really not pick anyone else this year? Like, were they really the best outta the pool of people they had?
Chickens in Malibu 7,873
What the **** is this award? Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and Beyoncé got it before Gaga lol? Yet, Gaga is the biggest gay icon out there. Glaad doesn't represent LGBT community.

Gam 19,695
In my opinion she does deserve it, after seeing that thread of things she's done I believe she does. BUT it's insane Gaga doesn't have this award yet lastfm - https://tinyurl.com/4x28kakr⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀steam - https://tinyurl.com/mbyp5as5

This award are meant for those who are allies towards the community. Gaga can’t get this award because she’s openly bisexual ever since she opens came out back in 2009 during Barbra Walters interview. diana’s advocate
