I believe our capitalistic system must be regulated to a degree in which someone working minimum wage can afford their (bare minimum) living expenses (rent, utilities, food, healthcare, etc.). Keeping our system at least partially capitalistic affords aspirational people the opportunity to achieve success greater than the status quo. I'm on your side, I think. Yeah but when ppl refer to the term socialism they are generally refering to government getting bigger, more spending, more taxes etc. Basically more left wing politics Most ppl when they talk about socialism they don't mean the technical terms true meaning where there's no capitalism. Few ppl actually support that extreme I think lately ppl spend too much time arguing about the technical definition of socialism vs democratic socialist or whatever Instead if arguing the actual policies themselves What ppl call it isn't the main thing. Usually you know what people mean when they say socialism

I'm not going to connect the dots to compensate for their ignorance. If you mean more extensive social programs, don't say socialism. If you want a socialist society, say socialism. If I just assume what they mean, I feel like I'm fueling their fire of stupidity. There is a difference between socialism, democratic socialism, social programs, social democrats, and capitalism. If you don't know that difference, then your opinion on the matter is invalidated. People need to become educated before just spewing out the garbage propaganda that comes from their party. If someone says socialism in reference to social programs, you best believe that I will correct their a*s... Politely, of course.

There is ALWAYS a return on investment when it comes to infrastructure because it boosts economies It is not ignorant to fight for these things when the facts prove they can indeed be done. There is rampant overestimation of how much things like this would cost and underestimation of the United States’ (which contains 40% of the worlds wealth) ability to pay for it. It’s just a matter of priorities and conflicts of interest in government due to campaign financing laws. Circumstances are different in Canada. We do not spend such a fortune on military, our Federal debt is 31% of GDP vs 77% for the US. Counting All Government debt including Provinces and States Canada's public debt is still less than 80% of GDP vs almost 110% for the US... The US as a result spends more on interest payments than Canada Those 2 factors already leave less money for the US to spend. In addition, US Doctors make more money than in Canada. If you want a comfortable cost structure payed by the Government youd have to convince your doctors to get used to being paid less Also Canada's healthcare is not as free as some Americans think. We do not have full coverage like some European Nations do, they have higher taxes for truly free healthcare. Depending on the Province healthcare is only 70% to 80% Government funded. Many segments of healthcare are not Universal in Canada they are privatized and you either need insurance or pay out if your own pocket. This includes dental, vision care, Pharmaceuticals, Chiropractors, medical equipment such as a cast, or even some types of minor surgeries (my mom's cyst on her arm that was bothering her was not life threatning and thus considered cosmetic and she had to pay like $500 for that minor surgery) As for Corporate taxes, I think Trump did lower them more than necessary but they were too high before and uncompetitive To give u perspective, USA effective Corporate tax rate right now after Trumps tax cuts averages 26% whereas in Canada it averages 27%. It's almost the same. US rates are not that insanely low Also not all infrastructure is an investment (I'm not saying Cortez isn't, I don't know her plans well enough). But if you build a road that's not really needed for example it's just a long term upkeep cost with little economic gain. So infrastructure still has to be thought out, you can't just build for the sake of building or else your just wasting money... And even good infrastructure spending that has lasting economic benefits still has an innitial cost and long term upkeep cost so whether it brings economic gains or not is besides the point. You still need to be able to afford it

Not just "ohh it's gonna cost so much" I agree with military being too high that's wasted money Also a single tax payer system could be cheaper as you get rid of the profit margins on Insurance companies and then also on the hospital bills But ppl also need to be ok with paying a bit more taxes (which replaces the insurance costs)... There's some ppl that always wanna put the bill one someone else "let's just tax the wealthy". There's a limit to how much that can be done until business investment and entrepreneurship takes a hit

Not just "ohh it's gonna cost so much" You really aren’t. Your taxes are not at forty to fifty per cent of your income. Most full time employeed adults have insurance through their employers. Their employers are absorbing the extra insurance cost. The government runs the VA...and it’s a sh*tshow. That’s your issue right their. Getting half the adults of voting age to trust a government to give them healthcare like they already have through private insurance. They don’t want to pay ten to twenty per cent more for “free” insurance at the VA, when they have private doctors and hospitals that they can get in to see today. Taxpayers are going to pay for that lazy ass to play golf on weekends as long as he is President. That has nothing to do with healthcare. Military spending isn’t going to be cut dramatically, no matter who is in office. We could cut quite a bit out by getting out of wars that really have nothing to do with us...but, that’s a whole different subject. That would just mean that we stop driving up the National debt to obscene levels. It wouldn’t magically make everything free in the US.

If Canada didn’t have that, the country would have to be building up their milatary at a substantial rate. Unfortunately, medical school is so unbelievably expensive, it takes a higher salary to convince people to go through eight to ten more years of schooling and hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt. When you start your profession at age 32 to 35, work sixty hours a week, and owe two to three hundred thousand dollars in debt- you deserve better pay. And to clarify, YES, Spanish is a European language YET most whites in the US don't speak it and associate it with non-whites, mostly Latinos. Again showcasing the xenophobia associated with Spanish from many Americans is partly due to racism and their perception of those who they see speaking Spanish. Anglicize is the word you’re looking for, also “Latinos” can be white. Latino doesn’t equal non-white and it’s not race-related (infact most Latinos in the US identify as racially white). I get your point though, but if I can help people better with their terminology it’ll help create less bickering in an actual political argument.
