I met a lot of Trump supporters when taking my all inclusive vacations and meeting plenty of Americans at resorts. My impression was that many whites in general fell for his crap And I know about his slight majority in swing states hence why I said the electoral college Of course not only old, but the white vote made him win in they key states. But old, lower education, and white were the main factors. Most other groups favored Clinton.

All the things she wants to do like Free Health Care, Cancelling student debt, the massive green investments and all the other ideas she has would cost an absolute fortune The US could slash it's military spending in half and still not come even close to coming up with the money for this stuff Sure there's a bit of room to raise top income taxes a few more percentage points or capital gains taxes a few more percentage points without major economic damage but even if you could raise taxes on wealthy another $100 To $200 Billion a year it would not pay for all of this I think she lives in Lala land and doesn't know how to be realistic

Many people, and I have to say myself included, view our free markets and competition as essential components to what makes America successful and free. That's not to say we shouldn't have more social programs coupled with our free markets (universal healthcare, universal education)... I agree that the argument perpetuated by old white men that there is no way to pay for these social programs is utterly moronic. TBH, I agree with most of the policies that AOC has proposed, but I feel like I disagree with her at a fundamental level at the same time. We need capitalism... Highly-regulated capitalism tho. We'd never very serious planning and restructuring to see how America could possibly pay for all that Reduction to military budget would always be a help too, it takes a lot of financial resources not to mention labor that doesn't do anything industrially productive (that doesn't help the trade deficit Trump complains so much about)

But the groups that AOC is part of (DSA, namely) really have made it clear that they eventually want to abolish capitalism -- which is pretty nuts. If AOC clarified her economic identity and explained that she really is a social democrat, I would be one of her biggest fans. However, until then, I cannot fully support her. Sure, you can have a family, and kids, and dogs, and cats. And you can marry whoever you want. But liberties shrink in the blink of an eye, and things like anti-trust policies and lobbying are, can, and will ruin the definition of "free" you're using. There's no way someone can be free if their life is dictated by people who have no idea how it is to live paycheck to paycheck, or with the salary of a middle class person. ferretti 5,808
People like this are such trash and I really can't wait until they die out. I know there are plenty of young people just as bad and worse, but slowly, we'll get there. Also, I know AOC is young and has lots to learn; but she is smart, caring, articulate and informed. She's trying to actually push change both inside congress itself and just in the minds of the citizens. She's my district in NYC, I voted her for and I am SO PROUD of her. Can't wait to volunteer to her campaign in 2020. And then again in 15 years when she runs for PRES. disco stick tester, inquire within

To me, being free includes the ability to achieve success greater than the status quo. Socialism intrinsically prevents this. I believe our capitalistic system must be regulated to a degree in which someone working minimum wage can afford their (bare minimum) living expenses (rent, utilities, food, healthcare, etc.). Keeping our system at least partially capitalistic affords aspirational people the opportunity to achieve success greater than the status quo. I'm on your side, I think. Ziggy 14,251
I would prefer to backtrack to the comment about the WP owner sending d*** pics around. Here this guy is lambasting and degrading him when our president is an admitted rapist??? THAT or he likes to lie to Billy bush pretending to be a rapist. To quote this schmuck, "what kind of [country] would you get from a guy like that?" Shameful. P.S. The collusion talk has died down because Congress also has a job to write and pass the legislation for the country. Ugh, this network is such a cringe at its ignorance. Raise minimum wage to livabke levels and cut business taxes to compensate the costs to the employer and they don't have to pass on costs to the public The reduced business tax revenue would be compensated by less welfare and social security expenses and encourage more people to work instead of being on the sidelines or comfortable on social support Reduced income gap without costing business owners or government more and encouraging higher labor force participation rates.
