This has to be rightfully posted every time a topic involves SOPHIE. I know many don't like the song but I mean why :air:

OIL is not meant to be all fun and happy. It is about herself accepting who she really is. If you listen carefully, the first 3 songs are really open and aggressive as the idea of being trans is still new and kinda disturbing. Then the next few songs 'til "Pretending" let you drown in the instrumentation as she herself struggles with her identity. Then, on Immaterial, she says "It doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl or a trans or whatever, you're special". With "Whole New World/Pretend World" she finally accepts herself as trans and says to herself "I looked into my eyes and expected a whole new world, but I got nothing but a pretend world".

At least it's my interpretation and I know the music's not for everyone

Thanks for this in-depth interpretation!  I'll give it go with this analysis in mind. I'm sure I'd appreciate the album a bit more.

I also should mention that "Pretending" is a special track as she put the lyric "I was just pretending" as slow-mo (Paul-stretched to be precise) over half of the song. Receipt:

My mind when I first heard it was

And now I can sing along in this super slow-mo :poot:

Neither 👏🏽 Did 👏🏽 I👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Then i found My Forever and it’s been downhill ever since. Some of her music really makes me appreciate her style and approach.

I’m 100% here for a gagaxsophie song in the vein as My Forever/sunscreen/just like we never said goodbye/ooh

I believe the intention of her music, if that's what you're asking, is to create the most artificial, the most produced, the most processed thing possible and to do it in such a garish, hideous manner. That's her art; it's pop distorted and exaggerated to hideousness. This only applies for most of her solo music, though, as in collaborations she is not quite like that, but people will usually hang their hats when they work with someone.

that is some thoughtful next level production. I love when artists leave these kind of subliminal messages in their songs. It makes the music so much more interesting

her way to mix the sounds is great. She's a great producer,

not all music must be pretty, or easy listenable anyway

Tbh, I feel you. Her sound can be very....abrasive. :selena:

BUT, when I hear the rumors, I get excited because the thought of Gaga's booming, beautiful voice mashed up with severe EDM gives me TFM/AP vibes. I feel like it could be really beautiful, and a nice juxtaposition.

I agree entirely! I find all her music unappealing (except for It's Ok To Cry which is a real good song). Just not good enough melodic content and sterp instrumental.

Those being said I think she will create interesting stuff with Gaga. She brings the best out of collaborators and we've see it. Who'd have though that Redone can produce a song like Bad Romance based on his production on other songs? :trollga: That's all I'm saying.
