time to PACK up and GO HOME BERNIE

Bernie is leading in the polls while Beto is coming in 5th or less.

Why would Bernie pack up? :rip:

Well Beto is married to the daughter of prominent real estate developer William Sanders who is worth 500 million according to NYT. With that kind of money in the family it won’t be hard for him to raise money fast, all the while trying to make it seem grassroots. I’m sure a portion of this is legit money, but a big chunk probably comes from daddy in law.

This could also mean that daddy in law will have a lot of political favors Beto will have to do for him.

For those saying Bernie should pack up should pay attention to these as a starting point. These two along with PA is the easiest way for Dems to win in 2020. Note with few exceptions, PA/MI have voted the same in general elections since 1952. And usually Wisconsin votes with them also with a few exceptions. These are states Bernie is particularly strong in and if you look at the cross tabs of the Michigan poll, you will see Bernie does the best against Trump with voters with high school degeee or less (a demographic that went largely with Trump last time).

Also, the reason Biden is polling better right now than Bernie is because older and wealthier people prefer Biden to Bernie. However, even rich democrats could likely vote for Bernie over Trump. Also, another cross tab in Michigan was that 61% of those polled voted for HRC over Bernie in 2016 and that bodes well for Bernie because he won more % of the vote in 2016 than is represented in the poll. That and the fact polling (some polls not all) underestimate younger vote turnout, I would suspect that Bernie is as competitive as Biden.

There is is no plausible reason for Bernie to “pack up” just because some democrats are still bitter than HRC didn’t win. Let’s quit blaming Bernie when for example HRC did not even campaign in Wisconsin the entire general election as one example. It was a lot more nuanced and so are the polls and anything regarding the 2020 primaries.

Maybe Beto will give him a cabinet position if elected, the sky is the limit

Yeah, Beto's either taking corporate money or he's got a list of wealthy donors giving the maximum amount they can legally donate. It's definitely shady that he's refusing to release information about his donations, the average donation amount and the number of individual donations he received.

This is probably the correct take:

It seems like Harris has competition as the favored establishment candidate for 2020.

Whispering

You have to have money to play the game.

He will be interesting to watch. I’m not sure how I feel about him, yet.

We have a LONG way to go.

I find it so funny that you just have to buy your way to the presidency in the U.S. Like it normally cost 1 billion or something right?

This. Here in Canada each party and runner has a set budget you cannot go over and he certainly why elections campaigns are also shorter in time frame

It's to even it out. No one party gets financial advantage over another to make it unfair

from what i've been gathering, it sounds like his wife (and her wealthy family) basically contributed a bulk of it.

on another note, i've yet to completely understand why so many people are so eager to tear the candidates down to the point of fault finding. the in-party divisive politics is scary, especially after what we've seen in 2016.

Campaign finance is a very sensitive subject in the United States. Basically what a lot of people want to hammer is that if your campaigns are funded by big donors, you’re more likely to value them and their agendas over regular Americans. Its the root of corruption and we expect that a corporate/PAC-backed candidate will do little to weed out that corruption.

Having a lot of small dollar donors also indicates that you have a huge movement of people behind you. That means you politically have more leverage. Your followers will help you by applying pressure to congress.

France also has a set budget rule to avoid money to be the key factor in political campaigns. I wish the US will also have it at some point. The current REALLY rule blurs the game imo.

I'm curious how is Bernie doing in Swing states?

Cuz since he's very left I wonder how moderate states would view him

Since the electoral college not the popular vote decides the winner it's important to keep that in mind

It doesn't help to lead in support of all ur supporters are concentrated in specific states

Well I think it has a lot to do with the progressive wing always being mistreated by the centrists, corporatists and the media. We’re tired of not being acknowledged, being told our policies don’t work just because it doesn’t benefit the rich and we’re also tired of the media and the press  putting a heavy hand on the process. That combined with the $$& in politics by multinational corporations in the form of PACS is so gross and that republicans and centrist democrats try to tell us we live in a democracy. But in reality, it is an oligarchical society we now live in. The only way to course correct is to ask the rich to pay in larger sums now for the programs that should have been in place decades ago. These people rely on uneducated people and voter suprression tactics in order to serve the people who fund their campaigns. They play “who’s the bogey man anyway” so that the status quo is maintained. That’s why there is division. Some people are okay with that and others aren’t.
