So I don't think she wanted to present them in a bad way but rather make a commentary about pop culture as she saw it in 2014. At least that's my interpetation. The use of greek mythology as you mentioned as well as her view on pop culture or the world in general while serving looks, choreography and incredible visuals & the obvious huge investment in shooting this music video are all of the reasons why I think this is one of her best music videos. It screams Gaga in every single way, in my opinion. And last, this video was extra as **** and I know you love that about Gaga which is why I'm even more surprised That is really interesting. I think if she had used a professional director to help bring the Neil Gaiman-esq New Gods vs Old Gods idea to fruition the video would have been more coherent. She needed someone with an editing eye to elevate the concept. But you are right, I do love when she is extra, so maybe I'm just over thinking it. I wouldn't put it in my top 5, but the color scheme, cinematography and even her look all came together really well with the track. I think John Wayne was also ironically enough, a more ARTPOP video than anything that came out of the ARTPOP-era with its technicolor psychadelia lol. Whereas G.U.Y. - An ARTPOP Film actually suffers from poor editing and art direction imo. She had these great songs to work with, the beautiful Hearst Castle of which they did get some nice shots of, but the execution of the concept as well as the costuming and inclusion of minecraft and celebrity references all felt so cheap even despite the conceptual explanations for their inclusion. And the fact that she ended the video with MANiCURE playing in its entirety over the credits was just so head scratching to me. And the way ARTPOPs production was altered just for the video kind of ruined the song. But thats just me going off now. The past has often showed us, that nothing‘s happening. well as we look at what the past has shown us, we also see that she never teased something and changed her profile pics and headers in the same week (also note that her profile pic / header always changes to whatever project she is about to promote).
