A single 16 year old going against a racist and his crew must need some serious balls. Attacking the kid, who stoll only threw a harmless egg, with a punch in the face and still kicking him while he is already on the floor held by some people is just pathetic on the other hand. Bad people deserve more than just an egg to the head if you ask me but I know that conservatives only get mad when someone protested their kind. If people have an issue that can't be sorted out with communication, then what is left to discuss? Politics, reduced to a school yard melee... Sad times we're in... I'm not naive about people needing to defend themselves or have security from their governments. However, from the few times I've witness violence and death, it feels senseless like 2 people fighting for a better spot on a sinking ship. NightStar 313 Posted March 17, 2019 Share Posted March 17, 2019 conflicts that revolve around hatred are most often emotionally heated. unless settled in a civil manner, there are two rules which should be remembered by anybody who gets involved in these conflicts: - toxic words may provoke disproportionally toxic verbal responses. e.g. you call someone a scum and this person replies that your children deserve to be fed to dogs. since the conflict is outside the civil realm, nothing is limited, and the level of verbal hatred can grow disproportionally with every new turn. - toxic actions may provoke disproportionally toxic actions in response. e.g. throw and egg at someone and you risk being kicked in the belly. this is how things always work outside the civil realm. We may not like it, but it's the ugly truth. For all the sympathy this kid deserves, throwing eggs is not civil, it's toxic behavior, and, sadly, nobody is bound to throw eggs in response to being egged or limit his/her response to throwing a tomato or potatoes in response to being egged. they can violently attack you in response. the kid took his risk and, honestly, he got lucky to not get mutilated. Imagine this senator had sterner bodyguards who saw this kid approach the senator - how the bloody hell were they supposed to know he only intended to egg him? What if they judged him dangerous and opened fire as a mean of senator's defense? i am not saying this in "this kid knew what he was doing, he knew there was a risk to be attacked in response to egging the senator, he deserves it" narrative. Gods, no. This is a mere safety reminded to everybody who's thinking to be involved in such things. Do not expect to get proportional reaction if you attempt to do something outside the civil realm. Safety is itself a rather fragile state, as we have learned too many times to our sorrow, and whenever the conflict is taken outside the civil framework, dangers and risks are rising, so therefore, be ready to effin run away the instant if you egg someone, do not just stand there filming it and expect your opponents to react with understanding and care. They will be after you and they will be angry, so you better run, gurl. Also, I would like to point to the negative consequences of the toxic actions even when they are taken against people whom we deem morally corrupt. Make no mistake, this senator is being made a victim figure on many far-right forums and other platforms. This video going viral doesn't intimidate him or belittle his significance: on the opposite, it exposes him to the broader audience than ever before and he is gaining in popularity because of all the sympathetic clicks by people who rely on the narrative that "the left" can get away with egging politicians and nothing is done to them, while if the same thing were done by a white guy to a Muslim legislator, the world would've dragged the egger to the depth of hell. This senator is now being googled by people who would have never even suspected his existence before, his speeches are being read by people who would've never even bothered to look for his writings before, etc... His ideas are spreading faster and wider thanks to the videos like this and the actions like this. People ought to have written complaints to the attorneys - I am sure racist behavior and hatred speeches are subjects to lawful inspection in Australia as they are in many other countries. There are organizations wealthy enough to file lawsuits against him - and this organizations could be contacted. Do not give such people the attention which they do not deserve. imnotyourbabe10 6,120 Posted March 17, 2019 Share Posted March 17, 2019 To folks saying things along the lines of two wrongs don't make a right, when the powers that be continue to **** people over and peaceful protesting no longer "works," things start to get ugly. And a freaking egg is not that big of a deal nor would a "glitter bomb" be. I hope society shapes up sooner than later because, with climate change and the nationalist agendas running amok, people are going to stop being so peaceful. While capitalism has subdued the working class (Workers of the world unite!) and religion stifled populations (Religion is the opiate of the masses -- or better yet, consumerism is the opiate of the masses), the destruction of private property is inevitable. Revolutions are the locomotives of history (violent or otherwise). People need to get uncomfortable and stop pursuing that American Dream because "You have to be asleep to believe it." But, yeah, if governments continues to sell out to money and corporations and exacerbate the wealth divide (in the US at least), it won't be pretty. Unless you can keep the masses at bay, which Tr**p et al. are doing so maybe we will see full-fledged fascism here shortly.
