He shouldn't have been egged, but attacking the thrower is far more severe and is grossly unnecessary. There is a massive difference between throwing an egg and a violent attack. While I don't do violence myself, I will not defend someone like the Senator against violence. I will gladly look away and excuse violence - especially something as simple as an egg.
