I don't get how some of these new artists work. 

For example Khalid or Halsey have a huge following on Spotify but very poor views on YouTube. Why is that ?

They don't rely on YT but streams and radio. This is just the comeback of the easy listening format because we hadn't had this format for nearly a decade. Their music videos are also usually pretty boring/bad.
