LostBoyfriend 1,119
Legit question: Does the influence we have when kids do affect us in the future isn't? So, being exposed to "feminine" things, or women things, being shows, magazines, characters, etc. Tend to have an impact in our behavior right? I lost the point I wanted to achieve, but, shouldn't those influences affects us as humans? Maybe he, as gay, acts and behaves and thinks this way thanks to all those influences he had as a kid (I'm assuming, i literally don't know a thing about him) and now those things reflects in his mind? Being confused to "gender roles" or "how it should be" to the point he now it's considering a sex change. I guess I'm trying to say that gender roles in media it's kinda stupid and hurtful to an extent, but at the same time they're necessary...? To helps us hand pick what we like or how we would love to see us? It's almost as saying that the macho stereotype in media reflects badly when in real life "machos" act stupidly, but now gay people also confuse themselves when being exposed to either "women" things or badly-stereotyping gay characters? Im legit legit not being troll or tryna start a fight or annoy someone, I don't even know if I'm making sense, but please @ me to understand better or your opinion. uo111 5,265
He is literally saying he is upset that he isn’t “man enough” because he has fat hips, and he thinks saying he isn’t a man just because of that is okay? I’m sorry but this delegitimizes the actual transgender experience and promotes unhealthy body ideals for men (especially gay men). He is also saying feminine men aren’t men, I’m ****ing dead. This sounds more like extreme body image issues, and I do think he would benefit from therapy. I don’t care what he wants to identify as, but his reasons for doing so are unhealthy and hurtful. StrawberryBlond 14,910
I really think this is a case of bad body image more than anything. Obviously, he connects far more with his feminine side but you can have that and still be a man. If he genuinely feels like just as much of a woman, why does he always present as male? He doesn't strike me as transgender, rather a man who simply appreciates lots of things that are traditionally feminine and has modelled himself on them to the point where he thinks he is female. The way he talks about being a female is so superficial and as a woman, I can say it sounds like he only understands womanhood in the most overt, traditional sense. We are more than "weight on our hips" and a "soft voice" and we don't fit into such a narrow, stereotypical box. Even if you have more oestrogen in your body than the average male, it doesn't make you a woman nor does it mean that feminine men are really women. Your body and your mind are different entities, you shouldn't connect the two. Surely he must realise that what he's saying won't sound good to genuine transsexuals? I think he could just be saying this for attention, honestly. He brought this exact same thing up a year ago and is maybe trying to get noticed again because he knows this kinda thing will attract attention and sound sensationalist. Whatever he's feeling, I don't think he should be talking about it to the media, who can twist things to drive traffic to their site. There are some things that are best kept between family, friends and your therapist, not journalists and media, especially when your feelings are constantly changing. Im legit legit not being troll or tryna start a fight or annoy someone, I don't even know if I'm making sense, but please @ me to understand better or your opinion. I think I kinda get your point and I'm gonna say growing up like that doesn't always affect you...when I was growing up I lived with an all girls family (mom, sis, grandma) my dad was always working outside town and he only came once a week every 3 weeks. I never had a masculine figure and I was always influenced by "girly things" ex: telenovelas, fashion channels, makeups and magazines even my best friends from primary school were all girls. But now that I'm 24, I'm not feminine, I don't know much about fashion (god my friends even joke saying "what kind of gay are you?"), I don't want to be a woman, I have men and women friends ...yes I'm gay so I'm gonna blame that on that. But if you are wondering I don't think like sam smith. I never had a problem with my gender or my sexual orientation. I am a man and I am gay, also I never even had a problem with my weight. And talking about media characters you are right. I'd never identified with any of those tv characters that are extra effeminate twinks, fashion divas and drama queens and that always try to seduce the more masculine man and get him The only character I really felt identified with was with Max from happy endings. So in conclusion I don't know what makes you feel or think like sam smith What if tomorrow I see you again? Should I say that I used to love you? Queen Bitch 10,513
One of the things that opened his eyes were people who have come out as genderqueer/non-binary, those who don’t identify with being male or female. When he first saw the term, he thought, “F***, that is me.” He continued, “I’ve always had a bit of a war between my body and mind about [how I identify], because I do think like a woman sometimes in my head. I’ve sometimes sat down and questioned: Do I want a sex change? It’s something I still think about. Like: Do I want to? But I don’t think it is.” “That’s me looking at myself and saying, ‘F***. Maybe I’m not a man, maybe I’m not a woman, maybe I’m just me. And maybe that’s OK.'” I relate so much to this. This has been my thoughts for so long.
