I see what you're saying, and there are parts I agree with, others I disagree with. I do agree that nobody can tell an artist what to do -- if an artist just does whatever the critics tell her to do, then she has no integrity. But on the other hand, to be an artist, you also have to be able to take people's critiques and use them to make your work better. In my opinion, it's a skill that's just as useful as creating the art in the first place. Taking criticism and molding it in such a way that your work is changed but is still a representation of who you are, rather than a representation of the person who critiqued it, is an incredibly creative and incredibly difficult act. An artist has to be able to learn this skill, or else the work will suffer. I like to imagine it as if the artist is inside the canvas, in an entirely different world that's like stepping into the frame, and creating the work from that perspective. Seeing things from a perspective that no one else can see from. But criticism is a person standing in front of the canvas and holding up a mirror. It's a very different and very necessary perspective...how else would the artist be able to know what the canvas looks like unless they see it through the mirror? Otherwise, they're creating blindly. But of course, every mirror is unique, right? The reflection in each is a little different. The mirror is a general guideline, a bit subjective, not 100% accurate, but still completely helpful and necessary. It's the same with people's criticisms.

I completely agree, and for the most part thought that was the general gist of Gaga's mindset through this whole 'critic' drama. While I still believe this is her mentality (maybe ideally, I personally think it's the best for her), this recent post has kind of flummoxed me.

I'm reading it as through what you said in your post, but the more people attack it as a passive-aggressive statement on critiquing, the more I'm unsure what to think. I have hope in Gaga, and hope she can handle herself well, but the general atmosphere on here (or anywhere relating to her, really) is kind of disconcerting.

She's just dealing with crap, **** & critics that way, she's writting positive things about HER work & creations, that doesn't necessarily means she doesn't listening or care critics, so just so staph!

I don't think I really agree with her. I mean, I agree that we shouldn't care what critics say because it's all subjective and there is no right opinion, but everyone is allowed their own opinion from their own perspective. But then again, if you put yourself in her shoes, there's just a bunch of really harsh people telling her what to do when they have no idea what it's like to do her job.

Oh Gaga now you're just saying plain bull**** :rip:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Ugh.

When are we gonna see action instead of these 'I'm so sad, nobody understands me' - posts.

Do something instead of doing nothing while being in the middle of an era. Stop acting so depressed all the time, life is not always easy and taking critique is not pleasurable.

I think it's time for another social media blackout Gaga. I really miss the days when she did what she wanted without giving a **** about what anyone else said.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

You don't need to be a chef to know that food tastes bad.

You don't need to be a singer/dancer to decide whether a person can sing or dance.

She was so strong willed and ever since BTW she has gotten soft. It is nice to see her open up and show her vulnerability, but that doesn't mean she has to be soft about everything...

I honestly thought that BTW was her most strong-willed, if not stubborn. I agree that she opened up and showed a sense of vulnerability, but she still had that "free b---h" attitude going on. In particular, the BTWB was particularly aggressive with the whole "I don't give a fück" mentality, while still jack-hammering messages of kindness and tolerance.

With the whole "start the drama, stop the music" and DWYW thematic message, I thought she was gonna go for a more proactive approach with media criticism and such. Not sure how I feel with her LM.com posts as of late.

I think that's what she's aiming against; not criticism in general, but people who stop at nothing to attack her and tear her down. I don't know, I feel like she's been down the last few months and this is her dealing with it. Post-addiction situations, internal affair issues, media attacks- in a sense, I wouldn't doubt if she felt like crap after all that. I kind of want to cut her some slack, because while it is true that one should learn to take criticism rationally and fairly, I think everything avalanched on her at once. She's only human, is my best say on this.

I'm scared this wont stop until she turns her own fanbase against her  :eww:

I hate to be negative, but seeing this thread gives me the impression that most of us are tired of this.

I love her so much

You don't have to be a cook to enjoy the meal or to say that the food sucks... And I wish she stopped talking for a while and concentrated on making these words happen...

On the one hand, I see how she could be saying that the people who should be trusted as critics should also be artists, because they have a better working knowledge of how the craft works, inside and out. They've gotten their hands dirty with it. That probably would've been a much better way to say it. But how does she know that the critics aren't creative or artistic in their own time? I would bet that they are. They're just amateurs at creating, but they're experts when it comes to knowledge of music history, and what the trends are, and how to express their feelings about a song in a coherent way. They've got good taste. Most of Gaga's fans are like critics, then, because we're not all amazing musicians or pop stars like she is, but we love music, are creative in one way or another, and we like expressing our feelings and opinions about her art. So when she says that critics shouldn't be acknowledged when it comes to her art, she's also pretty much saying that her fans shouldn't be acknowledged, either.

Really love how we are actually telling our honest opinions. If only people on LM also discussed things like that for Gaga to see what her fans really think about her bringing this "criticism topic" up again and again, but not comment on every post how they love her and agree with everything she does and says. It's sweet, of course, but come on now...
