mzncb 332
Paula Abdul Janet Jackson and Madonna made "lip syncing ok" whether people like it or not. Just because people 'grew up' with Britney becoming the biggest star doesn't change the fact that there is plenty of footage from the 1980s to 2000s of Paula Janet and Madonna lip syncing (or singing to a track) in their performances. Again, just because you respect their artistry/impact on the industry doesn't change the fact that they did it heavily before Britney came on the scene. RochestrMonstr 2,817
Back in the 1970's it was very common to do on television. I first learned that when I started listening to ABBA.

NewYorkCity 10,530
EMMM... lots of things could be said about this. First, is it ok? Depend on what you expect from an artist. I can understand it when they are doing epic choreos all over the place (still they could do it with support and some live singing). I could think: ok this is not live but I am watching an epic show well executed with amazing moves, props, dancing, up, down, flying... for two hours. Personally, I prefer less choreo and more singing (Gaga as an example). Of course Gaga can make an epic show with heavy choreo (see Superbowl) but that's not something any human being can do for 2 hours. I still believe that Gaga, even with less choreo, is on a level that no other popstar has now or has had, that's why she's my fave. Fight me. Post2007 Britney doing the minimum moves and not singing live... not for me, thanks. And yeah, it takes away some value for the performance (at least for me). Was Michael Jackson's SuperBowl performance epic and made history? Yes. Is it better than Gaga's? No gurl, Gaga did it live. Whitney/Gaga's national anthem? same. So.... 2School4Cool 6,397
No shade or disrespect to absolutely any artist or their fanbases, and I’m not calling out anyone in particular, but I personally cannot justify lip syncing at concerts. I side with Gaga when she says if people spend money to see you live, you better have some pipes and sing for them all night. In my experience, fans would rather hear flawed vocals that are live than having them mime to the studio versions. I think singing to a backtrack is okay, as long as you’re actually singing and not just miming. And I do understand that dancing and singing at the same time can be difficult, but like I said, I’d rather hear a breathy, messy, weak vocal performance during dance numbers than know that they weren’t even singing the song at all. Or at least sing over a backtrack for that portion of the song. That’s just my opinion though. See The Best In Everyone

The thing is, Britney doesn't care about singing live aymore and that's very frustating and boring to some people, like me (I consider myself a fan). Madonna sings live very often, and even when she has this not-so-good voice (let's face it), it's cool to listen to her live singing because at least it feels real. But, what's the point of this post? I don't ask in a disrepectul way, I just don't get it. Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch, just drink my ****ing coffee and watch 90's cartoons and hush

I think it’s different when you pay money to see someone in concert though. You’re paying that much money for their voice, not the album. RahrahWitch 6,985
I think it's a personal thing, For me It's never okay. As Ms. Gaga Said herself you pay to see a show that person better have some ****ing pipes and sing.
Gimme More 35,115
I think it's whatever you're okay with, with me personally i've seen britney in concert 5 times and i've had an amazing experience every single time! but i think people who go to britney's shows do not go to see her for her 'live singing' they go to be entertained and the show she puts on and her dancing. People who go to britney shows should know that it's pretty common she does not sing live. I'll be honest as a stan, i'd love for her to sing live but i've accepted she just doesn't but i have the best time anyway because it's britney and she's an amazing performer (idc what any of you say). Lip syncing used to be very common and some artists still lip sync but using pre-recorded vocals! Personally to me lip syncing is not a problem as long as you're aware/expect that for a show beforehand. Britney and Janet/Madonna are the only people i'd go to a show to if i was aware they'd be lip syncing as they are great performers and they dance a lot. don't come for me anyone, i can't be bothered to hear the same old recycled hate people have to say about britney I'd like to say I think artists that do sing live should get the credit they deserve, fair play to them
LaLuna 12,732
I think when you pay to see an artist live, you should get your money's worth, and that includes live vocals. Just because a lot of artists do it doesn't mean it's okay. If you don't have the pipes to sing live, then maybe you should reconsider your career choices. MrDarkGa 311
I cant justify it at tv shows or concerts. Fans pay for your concert. Networks can pay you to perform at their show. It would be a lot cheaper to just play your record if youre gonna lipsync. Now there are exceptions. For example Madonna's Vogue performance in the 90s as it was a direct demonstration of voguing, costume and lip-synching in a performance as many gay underground scenes were doing ajd focys was on that - not the vocals, at least to me. I love that this performance put LGBT culture firmly on a map and a bit less obscure.
Infinity Wave 7,634
I mean, if people could just admit that if an artist ALWAYS lip syncs than he/she just cannot sing live, that's ok. What's not ok is still tryna make Britney's voice happen Colourful
Mythos 3,199
At the end of the day, everyone should decide what they want to do with their money, and pay for whoever they want to see.
