Eros92 2,528
I'm really getting.... irritated (lack of better word) of all the Ava hate. Again as I stated I can't wrap my head around how nasty and pressed some of you people get about an artist making music that doesn't have any negative connotation connected to it and is really just a feel good song. Like do you love to put people down on the daily or what? Gaga would be disgusted with how some of you are acting. You make it seem like Ava slit Gaga's' throat and said: "**** Gaga its AVA now". Ava never has claimed to want to take the spot of any established pop star. She's new and coming into her on artistry. I can only assume you people are pressed because you think she will steal Gaga's thunder. I mean why else would you be so negative towards a girl make fun pop music that doesn't center around being a slut or doing drugs. I mean any of you listen to you her other song "Not Your Barbie Girl"? Great song, bop worthy and has a great message.

LM 4,067
Didn't Gaga do the same thing on BTW tho? I mean, they're both "pretty straight grls" singing about insecurities and being different and if you wouldn't know Gaga's life you'd say she has no connection to the song....just stop dragging Ava too soon for nothing

StrawberryBlond 14,967
Thing is, you can be "normal" and adhere to every "default" but still be bullied, likely because people are jealous of you. Sometimes, you just have to do one thing or have one belief that can make people decide you're not good enough. Quite often, the really pretty, talented ones can get this treatment because they're already held to such a high standard that any imperfection is magnified. I'm a straight girl and I've been told many times I'm pretty but I've never been popular, have been bullied, can't even get a guy, have always felt different to everyone else. When a new girl at school joined our group, I remember overhearing one of the more popular girls saying: "What's she doing hanging out with them?" not realising that maybe the girl's personality suited our group better. Sometimes, this idea can get very serious. I remember my cousin once told me she knew of a new girl at her school who was really pretty, smart and talented and for all those reasons, the popular crowd believed that she should naturally want to be in their in-crowd. But she really preferred hanging out with the most fringe groups because she wasn't superficial or into anything the popular crowd was. It made these mean girls so annoyed because they were thinking: "Who does she think she is? Are we not good enough for her?" so they started bullying her, even going so far as see her in town taking money out the bank, beat her up and stole it. There's such a huge sense of entitlement in popular crowds that any new addition to the area must want to naturally gravitate towards them if they tick every box of what it means to be popular. So, if you don't have that mentality, their egos can't take it and they make the person feel worthless. So, being a pretty, white, blonde, straight girl doesn't mean you'll automatically be accepted by everyone or have an easy life. Blanket statements about types of people are done. Individualism is where it's at.

Not attacking Ava or anything but So Am I is more like a surface level of a self-empowering anthem. It can’t be compared with BTW. And I’m not saying that as a Gaga stan. Does it matter?
