Biden Seeks Donors As He Eyes Presidential Bid

Former Vice President Joe Biden is trying to get donors to commit to his presidential campaign before launching a much-anticipated bid in the coming weeks.

Sources close to Biden expect him to enter the race, but they say he is trying to get his fundraising in line in an effort to start strong out of the gates.

“It’s a priority,” said one Biden ally, who is familiar with the former vice president’s planning. “If you don't have a good second quarter showing that could be problematic.” 

Biden has been making the rounds in recent weeks, calling donor after donor to earn their support. 

The former vice president has a pitch: He explains how he intends to win in a competitive Democratic Party and then go on to beat President Trump in the 2020 general election. Biden talks about the midterms and how he was the only surrogate for candidates who could campaign in both blue and red states.

Sorry, but I'm here for Biden's campaign solely for the reason that I think he has the strongest chance to take down Trump (which should be our top priority, full stop). He's white, male, and has a blue-collar vibe, which is exactly what's needed right now to win the electoral college's swing states.

So we’re going to abandon our principles of diviersity because it might help us to defeat Trump? 

Shouldn't we be standing by who we think is the best candidate available regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc and then standing by the winner as a party? Not being sellouts to bigots?

Not to undercut you, but it is still the primaries. He could end up being the strongest candidate available regardless of all the things listed..

If Joe Biden wins the primary because people just support him, that’s one thing. 

But I do not like the argument that the party should nominate someone who’s white and male just to appeal to bigots. Our party shouldn’t be looking to compromise with bigots. We should be getting out our base of non-bigoted supporters out to the polls. We got Obama in 2 terms. We don’t need to capitulate to racists. 

If the best canditate is a white, str8, old, cis man, then great. If it’s a queer, minority woman who’s just over 35, that’s also great.

I think those people are wrong as well. Same as people who say that about Bernie (tho that confuses cause he’s a minority as well). 

I just don’t think people should vote based on that kind of superficiality, it hurts our primary process. We should focused on the issues, not the color of candidates skin.

Who actually wants to vote for Biden? The american people are not looking for a donor-controlled centrist to be president. That's why Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump. I predict the nominee being either Kamala Harris or Bernie Sanders. The establishment is pushing Kamala hardcore but Bernie Sanders is having the most successful campaign out of all democratic and republican nominees right now. Tulsi Gabbard is also extremely underrated and I hope to dear God that she makes the debate stage.

The primaries are our chance to pick the BEST candidate, regardless of their "potential to beat Trump"

Joe Biden is not the best candidate, or even close. In fact, he might even be the most harmful (that has a chance of securing the nomination) in my book. There's this myth that the more moderate, establishment democrats have the best odds of beating Trump, but I don't think its true. Independents and young people actually do want progressive policies and stances and its a huge voter base that has a lot of potential to swing things, as we saw with the midterms.

I do think atm its 50-50 on beating trump, but of all the candidates with baggage that will be dragged out by Trump, Russia, opponents, etc. Biden has perhaps the most sizeable amount of it, and not juts stuff that will enrage people who are already conservative trump4lyfers, but stuff that will turn away minorities, women, independents, progressives, young people.
