So today, as Born This Way Foundation celebrates our seventh anniversary, I’m incredibly proud to announce that we have teamed up with the National Council for Behavioral Health to launch teen Mental Health First Aid in the United States. This evidence-based program will be the first in the country to provide Mental Health First Aid training to high-schoolers in grades 10 through 12. It will give young people the hands-on preparation they need to support peers who are struggling with issues like anxiety, depression, substance use, or eating disorders. We’ll start with a pilot program this spring in eight schools across the country (including Las Vegas as part of our presence there!) before expanding to more schools in the fall.

So this is probably what most of the money is going to, towards the expansion of this program into more schools and for more research.

I know this is a wrong, cynical way of thinking but I have always thought when celebs ask for donations - it would mean very little $$ wise for Gaga just to donate the goal amount - where as $20 here or $50 here could be a strain on everyday people. Yes, no one has to donate. But someone shift my mindset, because I don’t like holding this sort of negative perspective.

Is it more about raising general awareness?

Gaga donated a 1.5 million dollars into The BTWF when it started, I'm sure she has still been contributing her own money as time has gone by without boasting it for the public to know. It's a foundation to help the public and people who want to donate money into it should donate if they have the resources. Just because Gaga is really rich it doesn't mean that she has to fork over money to cover most of the budget that the foundation needs. The foundation needs public funding because as time goes on the programs that it is developing will expand across the country causing the budget needed to always increase in value. Over time Gaga will end up broke if she covers all the budgets that the foundation is needing. These fundraisers help people learn about the foundation and will also bring people who could possibly make more donations in the future which will benefit Gaga because she won't have any financial strain trying to support the budget of the BTWF when they begin to expand across America with the Mental Health First Aid program they have just started. Just because her Net Worth is 300 million that doesn't mean that she has all that money in the bank. Hope this makes sense.
