derpmonster 22,412
Average of $30 per person, not bad. I wish BTWF published a list of facts and figures about where this money goes and what they do (explicitly and categorically, not vague statements like "creating a kinder world" - I wanna know how). Then I might be more likely to donate to them. Right now, I don't know if they're the best non-profit to donate to. Yeah years ago they were accused of having a lot of donations yet donating nothing to concrete causes and years later we still don't know what's precisely done with the money... I'm not accusing them but no wonder why some people think it's a scam.

They do have concrete stuff now like their popup stands with resources, partnerships with stuff, but yeah we need a better overall idea. They need to do better explaining. Media had started trying to bring her down at that point already. Late Born This Way through ARTPOP they did that. The polemic I was talking about was in 2014 I believe and it was for the BTW foundation.

This was in the email they sent me Spoiler So today, as Born This Way Foundation celebrates our seventh anniversary, I’m incredibly proud to announce that we have teamed up with the National Council for Behavioral Health to launch teen Mental Health First Aid in the United States. This evidence-based program will be the first in the country to provide Mental Health First Aid training to high-schoolers in grades 10 through 12. It will give young people the hands-on preparation they need to support peers who are struggling with issues like anxiety, depression, substance use, or eating disorders. We’ll start with a pilot program this spring in eight schools across the country (including Las Vegas as part of our presence there!) before expanding to more schools in the fall. hpmcmill 1,990
I know this is a wrong, cynical way of thinking but I have always thought when celebs ask for donations - it would mean very little $$ wise for Gaga just to donate the goal amount - where as $20 here or $50 here could be a strain on everyday people. Yes, no one has to donate. But someone shift my mindset, because I don’t like holding this sort of negative perspective. Is it more about raising general awareness? Yes, no one has to donate. But someone shift my mindset, because I don’t like holding this sort of negative perspective. It may be cynical but it's true. As much as Gaga has great intentions, we need to realize that she *is* a rich bitch and the upper class. She wants to start a grassroots effort to get everyone to chip in, I know, but it's much easier for her to write cheques (I live in America but still use this spelling ). In the end, it's not the amount that matters but how much it is to you. Not the most pragmatic belief (because the one receiving these funds obviously benefits more from pure number) but I think it brings you more moral value to donate something that's hard for you to, even if it's $20. I'm not religious but it's like the story Jesus once told about how a beggar woman gave away the only coin she had to someone else and how that was much more valuable than rich people donating half of *their* income. She likely does donate to her own foundation and other causes and charities too. You can’t expect her to do it all though.

They post often about projects they’re working on even if they don’t specify where each single dollar goes. Personally that’s enough for me to be comfortable donating to them, and the fact that I seriously doubt a foundation run by Cynthia Germanotta would be practicing any shady tactics like stealing donations.
