The death of the music industry has been greatly exaggerated

2018 was the 3rd year in a row of double digit growth in the US with revenue now at $9.8 Billion

The rise in streams is mainly the reason as streams replace illegal free music downloading

Well sales have been steadily declining since the 2000s but now that there’s streaming, labels have found ways to be profitable. However songwriters are not getting paid their fair share cause record labels are being greedy and taking advantage of these new platforms. In the end, the money isn’t really going to the artists themselves just he machines that fund them.

It sure would be nice if the artists signed to major labels saw money from this

If there's one thing that I, as an aspiring musician, never plan to do, it's sign with a major label.

I'd rather be a bedroom producer and play small shows forever so I can actually earn revenue and not be stuck paying a major label back for money spent on poor promo and no radioplay for 10+ years

Sorry for ranting lol I feel passionately about this topic
