So, “365”’s position is actually pretty consistent with her chart performance over the last several years. Katy Perry can write a song and she is the driving force behind her own brand. With hard work and dedication she can carve out a lasting career and legacy. She may never reach her earlier peaks again as her appeal was the young hot high school girl which Ariana has kind of filled, but she needs to look at someone like Pink and go in that direction as she is almost 40. It ages her greatly and makes her look silly. She looked so hot and cool and edgy at the Grammys when she debut CTTR. Hell she eve looked better than her peak days. She should go back to that style. Eh, this is an opinion article. We are not in the 'Witness' era anymore either. We knew then and know now that 'ARTPOP' under-performed largely due to the overexposure of Lady Gaga (mixed with failed management). Gaga's issue was with image and she began to rebuild her brand through live performances (2015 Oscars), acting (AHS: Hotel), and a vocally focused album aimed at a new demographic (Cheek to Cheek). The under-performance of 'Witness' really came down to it not being "in" and Katy falling out of style in many ways. Of course she can curve this, but having a new DJ-led single under-perform is not a good thing. The problem that differentiates Katy from Gaga is that Gaga is known for re-creating herself and branching out. Katy is much more restricted in what she can do. Lady Gaga staged a comeback by really exploring sides of herself and artistry she had never shown before. We will have to see if Katy can do the same. She's a good singer, but she isn't exactly a renowned vocalist and she also can't act. Gaga had yet to do major gigs such as Super Bowl and Oscars by then, and she wasn’t really known for her pipes and talent either. She was still just the “weirdo”. With the covers era, C2C, then Oscars twice, then Joanne (a much more mature album) and the Super Bowl, she was able to show different sides of her artistry and earn the respect of the GP. And now she’s won an Oscar. She did all those things by being just immensely talented. Katy is unable to do a 180 Gaga-style. Her options are much more limited. She hasn’t even won a Grammy yet and, honestly, I can’t see her winning Globes, Emmys or Academy Awards either. She’s already done the Super Bowl. She doesn’t really sing so well, so she probably won’t sing live at the Oscars either. She’s in a much, much more difficult situation than Gaga was. Miss me with all feminazi BS but that short cropped blonde just doesn't work for her. All celebs have branding. Britney being a quintessential personification of bottle blonde. Gaga being an oddball or having a rebel streak despite all the metamorphoses. Katy was her hair. The pixie cut just doesn't work for her. It worked for Emma Watson. It worked for Anne Hathaway. But she is anything but those ladies. She's no artsy fartsy actress. She's a bombshell. That's what her personality is and it clashes with the Ellen haircut. Personal statements. Stripped aesthetic. Earnestness. Nostalgia. She can rebounce if she wants, but she needs to be brave and tell her label to let her be the singer that she wants to be.
