Her fanbase is older now and she will have an audience to cater to, although smaller than during her peak.That does not mean she needs to stop making fun, bubblegum pop songs but it needs to be packaged differently. So I think Katy Perry will do more than fine, hell probably be the top pop girl again. Just like Mariah, her and Katy Perry are in a realm of their own. I think people just aren’t into “the girl next door” vibes any more and want some sort of edge to the persona that is either personal or “savage.” Bubble gum pop is kinda dead at the moment and Katy seems to fit perfectly into that aesthetic. Her career can survive for a long time just from the success of TD and PRISM. I just hope she'll be able to bounce back and clean her image because she's seen a bit as a joke since the Witness era.
