Social media is a definite time waster, and you need to exercise restraint to keep yourself from falling into that trap. But it’s a great place for artistic freedom. All you have to do is post your art. There’s an audience out there for everything. You don’t need a major company to release new content anymore. Gaga said this herself in the SXSW 2014 Keynote interview and again in her 2016 Zach Sang interview.

Anyone can put their art out there, then make some coin by putting advertising on it. Views and likes on social media can be purchased, so they may or may not be authentic likes/views. Record publishers only sign people that have large social media followings now. They won't risk putting money on an artist with no social media followers. When will publishing physical media become extinct? When will the role of a publishing company with their record contracts become irrelevant? Record contracts used to be the way artists made the big money. Now it is concert tours, performance fees, and clicks, ( I would guess). The internet has changed pop music dramatically.  Frankly, I've seen enough shyt on Twitter , and even gagadaily ffs, to understand calling it a toilet. Though maybe that reality is too offensive for those that don't shyt in the internet. Instagram has been cleaner than Twitter, but I don't wanna jinx that.

I don't like this Gaga. She has the Oscar, now she can die and bring the real Gaga back.

I don't like this version of jujubaruda, jujubaruda can die and come back a decent human being.

10 years ago social media wasn’t like it was today (I joined Twitter the around the same time she did). In the past 5/6 it has become so incredibly toxic. She did what she needed to before social media became what it is now but it doesn’t mean she has to like it still, she’s been on it long enough to make an observation like that.

I guess I’m going to have to take your word for it.  I don’t remember what the culture of Twitter was like back then as I rarely used it. But it’s still so jarring to hear those words come out of her mouth. She was a pioneer in her use of it and she was the first superstar of the social media era.

She is not wrong. Social media is now a toilet.

It wasn’t back in the day. It is also just as

phony and PR produced as everything else now.

I’m blonde, I’m skinny, I’m rich and I’m a little bit of a bitch
