I blame Nicki Minaj and the barbz for making the term a thing

It also contradicts itself so much because when Katy was slaying in 2014 everyone on this thread would scream payola. But with how Bon Appetit, Swish Swish, and now 365 bombed on airplay no one thinks its weird that Katy could just payola her way to the top of radio AGAIN like she did a few years ago? Well she can’t because she never did in the first place.

BenG

Now the article even mentions the minimum pricing required for TUN, implying Ari's team would have discounted further if they could :lmao:

I’m currently new about this whole payola thing. I used to lurk in PulseMusicBoard and the first time I heard the term was of Taylor Swift using it. I never took it seriously. But then after the whole Nicki-Cardi debacle, it became a huge thing. I don’t know how to feel about it tbh.

Runway

Grande's Thank U also got in on the discount action, as the set was sale priced at Amazon and via Grande's official site for $3.99 -- along with temporary price cuts on her merchandise/album bundles. Like Gaga, Grande also socialized sale pricing offers. (Thank U did not dip to $2.99, as Stardid, as $3.49 is the minimum price for an album to chart during its first four weeks of release. The new chart reflects Thank U's third week of release.)

tbh I wish some monsters were a bit more polite with this kind of stuff like gagamonster96 here. It actually helps and make us look less crazy.

People use it to detract a song when its doing good on airplay but bad on streams and sales. Like Delicate. But radio has never guaranteed to play songs that do well on sales and streams. Shallow is a prime example. Delicate was 90% airplay fueled but that doesnt mean it was payola, it was just a radio friendly single from a radio friendly artist that programmers liked and it has great call out scores.
