Not having #1 hits is not being over. Joanne sold fine and delivered a signature ballad.

ASIB has been a dream project for her and great for her career, but she would have found another way.

It's been uphill since the Superbowl, but ASIB did put her in a poweful position.

I'm just hoping her music style doesn't stay in that stream. I'd rather have ASIB vibes stay in the ASIB era.

BTW-ARTPOP vibes for LG6 pls

the problem with the pop industry is artists continuously trying to appeal to the teenage demographic.   It perpetually stunts artistic growth as artists are not allowed to mature themselves or their music.

Gaga actually came out fully adult... her music appealed to an older audience from the start, she never targeted her music at pre-teens or teens directly even though she picked up a sizeable fan base there.  So she isn't saddled with as much baggage as Katy is, whose music and image has always been more literally immature.

Gaga should just be allowed to grow, along with her fanbase.   She's doing everything right lately, trying to jump back and target teenagers would be completely the wrong move and just seem desperate, aka MDNA.

You're so right.

I'm ready for mature dance/experimental/house/industrial but who TF knows what direction she will take?

Mostly, I think Gaga saved herself.  In the down times she could have given up and retired to enjoy her millions and her royalties.  But it's her strength and determination that saved her career with the help of some others.  She couldn't have saved herself if she wasn't an enigma.  So fragile emotionally, yet so psychologically strong professionally.  That paradox may have started with her bullying in HS, which hurt her badly emotionally and still does.  But that same bullying gave her the determination to go on, to succeed, to shine.  She teaches others to be strong and brave and never give up on their dreams, and the most effective way she teaches that is through her own example.  So she won't give up, she will not fail, through sheer determination.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Talent and hard work “saved” her. This narrative that she has been a fad is just from stupid internet stans. Since her Oscars performance in 2015 she has only gained more respect, Million Reasons open a whole new audience for her and ASIB was just the final lap.

I don’t think I’d use the word “saved” in her case. The fact that Gaga secured the Half-Time Show during her lowest performing album cycle proved that she’ll always have a seat at the table, and I was happy with that.

ASIB didn’t save her, it catapulted her beyond her 2010 peak to Beyoncé/Taylor Swift zeitgeist levels. It absolutely blew people away and now Gaga is sitting at the front of the proverbial line again.

I think it’s important to note that I don’t care about Gaga being the top player in pop culture, and neither should anyone else. The pressure she’s under now is astronomically higher than if she just followed up Joanne, and that will likely inform her next move. I want her to make music she wants, not music she thinks she has to make. Hopefully she keeps following her passion and deal with people’s reactions in stride.

Didn’t we say this about cheek to cheek? And Joanne? And the Super Bowl?
