According to you maybe, but let's not pretend it's a fact.

Edit: I have no problem with Glenn Close winning, I just think their performances are vastly different from each other, giving a definite opinion as if it were a fact is just a little inappropriate to me.

No, not just in my opinion, but in the opinion of hundreds of film critics and Hollywood peers.

Gaga gave a great acting performance in a very well directed movie.

Glenn Close gave a great acting performance in a poor movie.

You have no idea how hard it is for an actor to stand out when the script or the directing isn't excellent. Close did that.

You say that as if it's objective fact. It's an opinion.

Has Olivia won major awards yet? Why did Glenn and Gaga tie and not Glenn and Olivia?

She won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Madonna also won over Glenn Close and Frances McDormand at the Golden Globes.

That should never had happened.

Frances’ performance destroyed Madonna’s in every way :lolly:

It's not about Gaga. There are 3 other nominees this year.

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

I feel like Gaga would fare even better if she competed with Meryl Streep instead of Glenn Close. There were many new actresses who managed to win over Meryl Streep, maybe because Meryl had already earned her place and the Academy and other award show associations didn't feel the need to award Meryl, and instead went for the 'hottest performance/star of the moment' narrative, hence awarding new nominees like Cher, Emma Stone. Madonna also won over Glenn Close and Frances McDormand at the Golden Globes.

I guess Gaga's 'hottest star' narrative is overshadowed by Glenn's 'overdue narrative' this year.

Close's narrative is just too strong. She was robbed twice + she haven't done so well when it comes to noms in the past few years. She was nominated in 1989, she had to wait until 2012 to get the following one and haven't been nominated until this year. They know if they don't give it to her this time, since it's harder for older woman to get leading roles, she's never going to win!

OT: No, I don't think this will be the last one unfortunately. Some losers, even tonight's (Bradley) will considered owed. And that will help them in the future  despite how strong their competitors will be.

Glenn is such a legend that she said herself that many people already think she's got an Oscar and assumed she won for Fatal Attraction. That's basically as good as actually winning one. And Lifetime Achievement awards are what's given out to actors who just couldn't quite cut it when push came to shove. You have to award new talent when the moment arises, particularly if it's someone who, realistically, may never be nominated again. I'd also rather it was for a movie that was considered all-round good too. If the only good thing about a movie is its acting, you feel a bit flat when it wins the best acting award. Acting good in a good movie always trumps a movie where the acting is the sole good thing about it. If you want to award for an accumulative body of work, make up a new ceremony, just don't play that game at a ceremony that's supposed to award the best that year and that year alone.

Let’s forget about Gaga and just say that Olivia is more deserving for that Oscar than Glenn. If Glenn is looking at this award as a career acknowledgement, that’s fine, but if people truly believe she was the best this year in THAT film, that is quite embarassing.

I’m tired of the Academy giving these long overdue Oscars. Other actresses have to pay the price of their mistakes. Give actors their trophy when they deserve it.

so Gaga would lose to Coleman... you just have to accept the reality that Gaga is third choice here, and that's that

REALITY

If Gaga's chances of winning the Oscar were higher, would we really be talking about this?? :triggered:
