Meruk Holland 2,278
I just hope that the FCC doesn't decide to censor shirtless males instead of de-censor shirtless females. Which is something they totally would do.

I feel like it's going to be the former, with a show that is watched by more than 100 million people in America, and more throughout the world after the show, I think it's safe to say that they want to keep it as family-friendly as possible. It's not about gender right now, it's about keeping the show clean.

Which is a real shame because I feel like children will be more damaged by seeing all the outrage over shirtless-ness than the image of a shirtless person. Children are naturally curious, and seeing adults talking about nipples being disgusting and obscene is likely to harm the children than if the parents were totally calm about it

Haroon 49,685
I'm surprised so little people complained, I was thinking there'd be much more of an uproar over how this was totally fine and Janet was hung, drawn, and quartered over it

TheMiddleGround 3,274
The thing is, society has sexualized nudity. Society also demonized Sex. Wich both is unnatural af. Imo Janet Jackson still deserves an apology from someone, I don’t care who it is...! Adam Levine should be canceld tough. I’m surprised so few people filed a complaint. StrawberryBlond 14,881
People are totally only complaining about this because they're against Maroon 5, let's just be real. I can't bear fake outrage. If you're going to complain, have it be genuine, not a fake piece of retribution for someone else. I think Janet was treated badly but I realise her case is different because she's female. And that's ok. It's ok for men and women's bodies to be viewed through a different lens. There's nothing inherently damaging about breasts being censored. It just is what it is. No is seriously offended by topless men. And if they are, they must have a hell of a time when they go outside in the summer. You can't seriously think that this is on the same level as female toplessness. Like I said above, don't be fake outraged just because you want to further an agenda. If topless men on the street don't bother you then it shouldn't be deemed obscene to do it at the SB. Which is why it was ok. 12 hours ago, Meruk Holland said: Which is a real shame because I feel like children will be more damaged by seeing all the outrage over shirtless-ness than the image of a shirtless person. Children just accept the rules of society when it comes to this stuff and think nothing of it. I was never damaged when I saw debates like this when I was young, nor was anyone else. We are raising kids far too soft nowadays, thinking they'll be "damaged" by irrelevant stuff that no one should think twice about. You know what actually damages kids? Seeing women be sexually exploited and expected to perform sexually in a way that men aren't and have to be sexually dressed to be considered attractive whereas men aren't. That is what we should be protesting, not taking away the perfectly natural, beautiful sexual mystery of breasts. I say that as a woman and feminist. But the point is *why* do female bodies need to be treated differently? Janet had her career derailed by puritanical notions of feminine modesty that were not totally within her control meanwhile AL can freely do as he wants because he’s a guy? It’s a double standard. You’re right, men’s and women's bodies *are* viewed differently. No one is disputing that as a fact; they’re saying that that aspect of American society is sexist and ought to be changed which it is and it should. EDIT: and before anyone says “that’s your opinion”. Yes. I know it is. I wasn’t trying to pass it off as anything otherwise. Opinions are still worth debating. I know what they're saying, I'm saying that I personally don't agree with #FreeTheNipple movements, I think the perception of male and female bodies should remain the same, it's not damaging in any way. The only people I've seen who want female toplessness and attention seekers who aren't doing it to end sexism, they just want be exhibitionists. Most women don't want to have their breasts let loose because it's uncomfortable, people will stare and they'll get sexually harassed worse than they are already. I've always said it'll take hundreds, maybe thousands of years of evolution to stop the sight of female breasts being sexualised, so people campaigning for it won't even be around to see the effects of it. The planet may not even be here by that point, so why bother? It's not worth opening up women to decades and centuries of extended harassement and assault when topless while the perception of breasts changes.
