I’m pretty sure that’s the only thing he could think of while saying this. No matter how you spin it it’s still bizarre for him to say this. Showing sympathy for Bernie at such an early stage will make the more rural, populist, trade union-y voters switch from Democrat to Trump in the case that Bernie loses the primary. Smart. Just to make it more clear. Imagine that in the end, it's Bernie Sanders vs. Kamala Harris and Kamala Harris wins (minority votes, urbanites, older folks). Bernie's supporters (white, rural folks) who would otherwise support Trump or abstain, are vulnerable in this scenario and could eventually end up voting for Trump if Trump stresses their similarities and makes the election another Trump vs. SJW urbanite centrist establishment kind of thing. He has a pretty straightforward, concise voting record and has been the only person to bring approachable progressiveness to the Independent/Democratic parties. Dems aren't realizing that younger folks want what Bernie is preaching ("but that's socialism" lmao). We don't want the neo-liberal democratic vision that jumps on bandwagons. (Even as an anti-capitalist/anarchist, I realize Bernie is rich and still operates within the dominant framework but he is truly a good human being and has been fighting for his vision for decades).
