In general, it is more to haunting and thrilling kind of horror, but it won't linger. You can sleep soundly at night. So it is not like after when finished watching The Ring or The Grudge that could/would keep you up late for a week or two for example. I have a huge fear of blood but I wanted to watch it for Gaga so the first attempt I watched from like episode 7 or 8 to the end because there's one episode that is mostly Gaga. I realized it wasn't that scary but obviously the blood still put me off so I tried to watch it again from the beginning and the first episode put me off again. And I think AHS isn’t scary in the least. I didn’t watch the first season, but Asylum and Coven are the last two that are at least unsettling and dark and can be scary at times, after that I feel the seasons softened a lot, and there’s really no scary moments in them, disturbing at most. But I guess you could give it a try, see for yourself and stop as soon as it becomes too much. Who knows, maybe you'll be absolutely fine - people have different thresholds when it comes to these things, so not knowing you personally, it's hard to tell you what you should do.
