"My Vote: "Shallow" (A Star Is Born)

I didn't like the song from Mary Poppins [Returns, "The Place Where Lost Things Goes"]. I don't even remember the song from RBG ["I'll Fight"]. "All the Stars" [from Black Panther] was somewhat memorable. But, to me, they were just searching for songs to fill up the category. Isn't a song supposed to reflect a bit about the movie and be memorable? To me, there was only one that deserves this sort of an honor: like everyone else, I really liked "Shallow." It draws you in to the picture, and it's also what she should have sung at the end of the movie, instead of the goodbye tribute-song."

TEOG was one of the safest songs she could've ever released and it is one of her defining hits. TEOG is also one of her best songs :flower: There's nothing wrong in making trendy music as long as it's good.

...you do realize that Gaga started/popularized it right though?

I know, and i respect your opinion, but you gave yours, and I gave mine too, I've always loved Ari's singles, but TUN is her worst album by faaar to me, so I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, hope that Gaga doesn't go down that road :saladga:

She won't. She's still a popstar and she never even tried touching hip hop (besides the obvious) and considering her rumored producers this definitely won't happen.

Yes but without the following Katy Perry/ Alexandra Stan singles it would've sounded more out of place. Don't forget that LFN TGIF by Katy is way older than TEOG and only got released afterwards.

2011 was the revival year of the saxophone and soundwise it was pretty safe and tame. This isn't meant to be a criticism of the song, which is not only one of my favorites but also one of Gagas objectively best songs. The song pandered to older audiences and it smashed the older audiences into pieces. Without TEOG BTW-era would've ended more abruptly and tragic than we could imagine.

TEOG doesn’t sound like 2011 though. Last Friday Night and Mr Saxobeat, which both have sax in it, is more the sound of that year. TEOG is much more nostalgic. Almost like a classical song. That’s why even today eight years later it still sounds fresh, whereas the others all sound so dated.

I agree. It heavily relies on 80's disco nostalgia. Retro 80's music also started to become popular again in 2011.

I agree with you.

TEOG is one of her best songs (probably the best track on BTW) and saved the era. It would have been bigger with another video.

Why the GP loves Gaga again?

Amazing Vocal Performance + Relatable Lyrics (ARUTW, I'll never... ITA?). That's the formula.

It did? Any other examples?

+ a really catchy beat and a hook you can sing while you drive: " I'm on the edge, the edge, the edge,The edge, the edge, the edge, THE EDGE!" :flutter:
