Cardi was the biggest artist of 2018 along with Drake and Ariana. She has 3 number one singles, a 2X platinum album, 5 multi-platinum singles, and 7 grammy nominations. I don't see why they wouldn't ask one of the current top artists to perform.

Might as well have asked Dua Lipa... Well they probably meant as a guest spot not the headliner
StrawberryBlond 14,910
I really think this was a wasted opportunity for her. Yeah, it's too soon but it's amazing publicity that she should have taken advantage of. I really don't think anyone will look back in history and remember why so many people boycotted the NFL and when exactly it happened. Your career matters more than one tiny little moment in history that won't mean much in the grand scheme of things. I'm a proud feminist but I wouldn't turn down an opportunity just because a lot of feminists boycotted it, if it was something I really wanted to do. Have your own mind and think long term. But seriously, some of you don't think there would be enough for her to fill 13 minutes? She's got 2 #1 hits and has many collabs that she could bring onto stage with her (she had huge hits with Girls Like You, Taki Taki, etc. by teaming up with others). Yeah, it would mean there would be a lot more people on the stage but there's been plenty of SB shows like that in the past. But I get that it is weird they asked somebody who only has one album out. I thought they were going too far by asking Bruno Mars back when he'd only released 2 albums. I bet they were kicking themselves that they didn't wait to ask him until after he'd put out Uptown Funk. Most likely the reason why they invited him back to perform with Coldplay so soon after being a (not so memorable) headliner so they could get an "Uptown Funk at the SB" moment. Bodak Yellow, Be Careful, Finesse, I Like It, Girls Like You, Taki Taki, Money + New Single would have been a great half-time setlist tbh.
