Gagally 775
I love Gaga and think she is one of the most talented, unique stars ever to have graced our universe. But, after reading all the reviews of ASiB, watching the trailer hundred of times and then seeing the movie myself, I was highly underwhelmed with her performance. In fact, I was surprised (in hindsight I do not know why I was surprised) how much Bradley Cooper's performance the movie was about. I came to the conclusion all the glowing reviews of Gaga in the film were by people who knew nothing about her musical range and drew conclusions about her via her appearance. Her performance was notable. And worthy of all the praise. And I love-love-love the movie. I think without Gaga there is no movie - I do not think anyone can argue that. But Oscar-Winner-Caliber? Cooper - yes! Gaga- not sure. At least until I see the other nominated performances.I have seen Green Book, and was blown away by Mortensen. But I still think Bradley's job deserves the Oscar nod. I am hoping by passing him over for Director, he is a shoe-in for Actor. I still wear my GiveGagatheOscar shirt proudly. If she won, it would cement her in the annals forever. She has lived her whole life in frustration because of shattered dreams, a dead mother, and an alcoholic father. Ever since from the start they show how impulsive she is, so Gaga’s reactions are fitting for her character. I’m not talking about Ally. You’re analysing a character. I’m talking about Gaga’s somtimes slightly awkward acting portraying that character. I’m just being real here. She was not the year’s best performance, there are at least 3 actresses in front of her for that honour. I’m also quite annoyed at all these critics, industry experts and award predictors like Goldderby setting the fans up for disappointment and deluding them. There’s actually a lot of GGD users who actually think Gaga was the best actress of the year 😂😐 Everything is so political - if I had my pick, the best actress in 2018 was easily Toni Colette. Sucks she was totally ignored at the nominations.

elijahfan 26,485
Omg, reading this thread.... Leave it to Gaga fans to find reasons to bitch about even when she's on top and praised left and right Then again, whose opinion should we be trusting more? Professionals from the industry, or a bunch of online frustrated twinks?

Epione 10,896
If Glenn Close is worthy of an Oscar, then Gaga should get two Oscars.
bluemonkey 639
I find it very annoying that to get an Oscar you must have a traumatic scene where you are sobbing your eyes out to prove you are a good actor. There are many actresses that can cry on cue ( I’m not saying Gaga so don’t come after me.) Should they all get oscars? I find it annoying that actors think they have to be raped on screen or have a sob fest to get an Oscar.

I totally agree with you, I think Gaga did her job. She did a good job but was it mind blowing? I don’t think so. I was definitely impressed with Bradley as we never seen him like that ever. Every role I saw before of him, he was always the hunky Bradley Cooper and when I first heard Shallow, I didn’t even know it was him, I thought they got another singer to do his parts and then on top of that, he directed it too? The attention should’ve been on him instead. It’s a great debut for her and something not even Beyoncé has when she was trying to be an actress (she’s not a good actress imo, always thought she was just playing herself in every role) so kudos for Gaga for earning her way in respectively but I think it’s a good stepping stone for an Oscar win in the future when she does get a good role. Ally’s character is not much of a challenge and doesn’t really show her potential unlike Bradley who totally blew me away and how he transformed himself that I sometimes can’t recognize him. I think that’s true talent.
Gypsy Life 118,907
Oscars are all about politics. No performance could've beaten Glenn Close once her "overdue" narrative started kicking in, no matter how good it is.

She's up against people whose life blood has been acting: they've honed and perfected their craft, most of whom for decades. If Meryl Streep tried her hand at music tomorrow, would it be abnormal if her first album didn't win a Grammy? No. That’s exactly how I feel. I would honestly feel it’s a slap in the face if Gaga does win when other nominees haven’t won anything after years of getting nominated and here this newbie gets it on the first try. I’m sure fans here would be outraged if Meryl Streep won a Grammy so the same goes the other way.
