He literally admits that in the last paragraph. Can anybody read anymore?

Well, to answer your rhetorical question, yes, people read.

But back on topic, Darren doesn’t get roles “despite” his ethnicity. In fact his ethnicity plays zero part whatsoever.

Sis needs to stop playing the sob story that is NOT the story of his life :messga:

He’s not saying it was hard for him to get roles but hard for people who aren’t white passing BUT share his ethnicity to get roles. I don’t see how people think he’s complaining.

He may not be complaining for himself but that’s what makes it so annoying. Like he is a privileged part-Asian Caucasian. Why is he trying to make himself out to be some sort of representative for the underprivileged? It’s unnecessary and condascending.

I don’t think he’s saying that at all. He recognizes his privilege and is speaking about his experiences of which he never says it was hard for him to get a job but hard for others who have a darker skin tone to get jobs.

He’s playing to the media. That’s all. His ethnicity has literally NEVER come up until he started winning awards. But to he fair MOST acceptance speeches and interviews are cringe so...:messga:

idg people criticizing his answer... he can't force his face to look more Filipino, the fact is he is half Filipino and he is the first Filipino-American to achieve these awards. He acknowledges how his racial ambiguity/white-leaning face helped him get roles, and he hopes to see change.

i’m personally still annoyed at what he said about no longer accepting gay roles

like...funny how he decided that after gaining basically all of his success while playing gay men and now that he’s won an Emmy for doing so again he won’t do it anymore. seems so disingenuous.

Maybe he doesnt wanna be typecast

I had no idea he was half Asian. :ally: Well good on him for finally saying what everyone else is. Maybe he can do something to help Filipino actors out?

he already was typecast for about a decade. it apparently wasn’t a problem to him before. he then won the Emmy and a few days later it was all of a sudden a problem.

Omg he looks white so I guarantee it’s not based on his ethnicity, he’s just trying to jump on the minority train. If he’s not getting roles it’s because of his acting skills. I doubt he has had to grow up with his race held against him.

i am half way through the show and plan to stop lmao. It was okay and I don't find his acting that impressive...

Lol I’m not even shocked anymore that 90% of the people on this thread didn’t even read the interview and came here wanting to bullshit around.

he LITERALLY never says anything about how race has been held against him... read the last paragraph. He recognizes that he is white passing and that for people with his ethnicity that are NOT white passing, it is hard for them.
