because I assume that the label paid for a video that never saw the light of the day, so they said they didn't wanted to fund any more MVs

They had probably given up on the era and she wanted to do it her way and make it grand. It's an expensive video. She had the money for it.

I’m glad she did pay for it because if Interscope did, it probably wouldn’t be as good/grand. It truly is one of her best videos that deserves 250M views at least:madge:

It still managed to pull 156M views which is actually quite impressive considering the song was a massive flop

It was her big "I'm my own boss" statement. There's no other reason. I'm sure Interscope has nothing to do with it, she said they supported ARTPOP and its message completely, and that everything that went wrong was just her manager's fault.

Of course she did change her story completely a few months into 2014 but :rip:We'll never know, probably.

Sad that fans still blame Interscope for everything messy in Gaga's path. Interscope gave her a freaking horse, that's super sweet, doesn't sound like the kind of label that doesn't think about her. Gaga has always defended Interscope, and when she didn't she would say otherwise next time. I think the whole "it's the label's fault" is a thing made up by fans, again trying to justify Gaga's actions.

Yeah but I think they definitely were not willing to fund another video after the DWUW fiasco or it wasn’t an amount she wanted so she did her own thing. I could see her holding no ill will just recognizing that if she wants this she needs to do it herself.

i assumed when she presented the idea they offered a low cost version of it and she wasn't having it. plus, she was kind of feeling herself at the moment, very "ARTPOP spring renaissence" and bla bla bla. she got what she paid for though, it's an amazing video that goes from art to camp very smoothly and showcases the range of what she's capable of.

edit: just watched it again and she shoulda ****ing hired a better script. the wig is coverin her face in 4/5 scenes (still an amazing video) (eureka o hara could never)

From my understanding, record lables only produce so many videos. Dont a lot of artist put their money into their videos?

My personal opinion is that she probably wanted to execute it exactly how she wanted for her fans, and didnt want anyone stepping in with an unwanted opinion? Not in a bad or negative way, she just wanted to end an era that was going bad for her on a high note for the people she cares about most.

It was sponsored by the NBC Network for which she put Andy Cohen and the housewives in it by exchange. So it was surely not a pure artistic decision.
