I think I want Glenn Close to win

That J

Glenn Close was spectacular in The Wife. I was totally into her performance from the beginning to the end. She is a tremendous actress and deserves the accolades. Obviously I would love for Gaga to win and both are deserving but I wont be mad if Glenn wins it. A tie would be heaven but dont hold your breath!

Also its supposed to be about the performance being nominated but i have seen a few times where someone who has been in the business for decades and decades win when it doesnt always feel earned that year. Ya realize they are pretty much winning for their overall body of work more than just for that nominated performance.  I could see that potentially happening here...the only difference being she really has earned it.

Many amazing performances this year so it will be tricky. Either Gaga or Glenn...that's the true competition in my opinion.

Gaga being nominated tho is a huuuuuuge moment and success so let's get there first!

I get what you mean, but it annoys me if she wins “just because she’s always snubbed”. The main reason really is because she’s always had to compete with Meryl Streep and finally there comes a year where Meryl doesn’t even have a movie out, but ASIB has all the hype.

She’ll probably win, but I ain’t gonna feel bad if Gaga gets it...she deserves her Moonstruck moment :staymad:

I actually want her to be more of an actress than a musician nowadays.

Take that back. Both of you.

I’m getting more and more into the film industry. The music industry is just trash nowadays. Besides, I want to be an actor after all. I don’t mind new music tho..

True. But remember Cher had her Moonstruck moment almost 30 years into her music career.

I don’t think Gaga should win, she is still new and the role was music related so it’s not out of her comfort zone and her other roles like AHS doesn’t really impress me so she still has a lot of time to refine her acting skills while Glenn is a veteran and a legend who deserves and earned her place.

That doesn’t mean she can’t win best song. Would you feel the same way if Glenn Close won a Grammy? Exactly.

If Gaga won, there'd be a major backlash. And since Glenn was the 2018's best, is overdue and the fact Gaga is singer turned actress, it wouldn't bode well for Gaga to win at all. There was even backlash when she won the Critics Choice award the other night. The comment sections on Facebook from severla publications were ugly. Most people don't think Gaga's performance was on Glenn's level, and it's true. I've seen both films.

I feel like it's too soon for Gaga to win the Oscar, especially with a performance that was just a good debut. And while she really good, she has a way to go before her acting is Oscar-winning.

Yeah, there was also a slight backlash against her when she won the 2016 Golden Globes award for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie. She was against Kirsten Dunst for “Fargo”, Sarah Hay for “Flesh & Bone”, Felicity Huffman for “American Crime”, and Queen Latina for “Bessie”. People were saying she didn’t deserve the award. I’m thinking about watching all of them just to see who was the best.

Actually, when Cher got her Best Actress Oscar 1987, she had a previous Best Supporting Actress nomination (for Silkwood 193) and at least three big hits and critical success (Silkwood, Mask and The Witches of Eastwick), so as you can see even Cher had a very solid acting career before winning her Oscar. She actually had an enormous impact, she was one of the most bankable actresses back then. And she was in a music hiatus while doing these movies.

So, this wouldn't be Gaga's Moonstruck moment. Give her one more great movie and Cleopatra and then she will earn that moment.

Gaga is a WAY better musician than actress. Her acting is good, but her musicianship is amazing.

Glenn was great. I'm seeing The Favourite soon!
