New York (CNN Business)- Netflix is raising prices in the United States as the streaming service invests heavily in new programs.

All three of the company's plans will increase in price by $1-$2. The standard $11 plan, for example, will increase to $13 per month.

The price hikes will be applied to all existing members over the next few months. New members will be charged the new price immediately. Its $8 plan will go up to $9 and its $14 plan will go up to $16 a month.

Take my money.

Still cheaper than cable, and most of the exclusive content is better than what's on TV anyway.

For the increase in price their content needs to be much much better! Otherwise, it's just for the sake of brand recognition

Netflix has really been slacking lately

They really haven't been offering anything good lately.

I find myself watching Hulu WAY more now

Europe will follow next. I’m fine with a small raise but they should step up their game here. Lots of shows that are still not accessible while they have already bought the rights elsewhere. For example I was on vacation in italy and they had supernatural, AHS and modern family. They should be consistent in europe as a whole.

Netflix has taken on a lot of debt and losses to grow quickly and dominate the market but it's taken a financial toll on the company

I'm not surprised that now for a time they've toned it down on new content and are raising prices etc

A company being really large doesn't always mean they are awash in cash. Large Corporations can have financial struggles too
