Serial Chiller 8,044
12 minutes ago, ferretti said: Green Book is good, but not great. It’s an unrealistic, lifetime-style look at race through the lens of a white character that is basically impossible to believe. Did the overall story happen, yes, are either of these characters believable considering the time and context, no. The movie relies on really basic understanding of race in the time, exclusively uses stories from the rascist white character and layers cliche and absurd character growth on top of one another throughout. After I saw it I was charmed, but thought this movie is incredibly basic and probably written by white people who didn’t care. Turns out, it was. It deserved much better. Also, quality wise, it pales by comparison to ASIB. ASIB has a simple and focused story with a script that is often just meh. However, it nails its characters and growth. It takes itself seriously and honestly. Then you add phenomenal directing, cinematography, music, music performed live in the moment and everything else - and to me, you have a film much more worthy of Best Picture than something like Green Book. Basically this. Green Book is racism for people who believe racism no longer exists.
hpmcmill 2,011
Green Book is better imo, but as others have noted - too much controversy around it.
