Trump threatens Turkey if they attack Kurds

Turkey has responded furiously to a threat from US President Donald Trump to devastate its Nato ally’s economy if they attacked Kurdish partners in Syria.

Mr Trump tweeted late on Sunday that the US will “devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds."

Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister, sharply rebuked Mr Trump, saying that strategic partners do not speak to each other through social media and stressing that Turkey is "not afraid of any threat. You cannot achieve anything with economic threats."

"We would do whatever is necessary to eliminate threat to our security," said Mr Cavusoglu, adding that Ankara saw the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) as terrorists who needed to be defeated.

Mr Trump's tweet saw the Turkish lira lose some 1.6 per cent of its value against the dollar on Monday, dealing another blow to its already ailing economy.

Asked to explain the tweet, Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, said he assumed Mr Trump was referring to the imposition of sanctions should Ankara take military action against the YPG, its allies in the fight against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

The Kurds are considered terrorists in Turkey. They have every right to protect their land from the kurds. So the US could eff off. Let us not forget that this isn't the first time the US supported terrorists. Remember back in the day they thought ISIS would be suitable people to help them to the point the US wanted to give them military arms. Look at where ISIS is now. So i'm with Turkey on this one.

The same could be said about the US but it's okay for them to kill innocent middle eastern people because they are collateral damage for trying to kill terrorists. Excuse me but don't throw stones when you live in glass houses. Thank you, next.

If a country wants to do what the US is doing, they let them do it, since the US wants and loves to be the 'moral compass' of the world. But i guess to you it's okay if the US does it, once other countries don't. That my friend, normalizing what the US does, is what's shameful.

It was implied with you saying "If you're so opposed to what the US is doing". Look listen, your have your opinions, i have mine. What I am trying to understand most of all is why the hell are we trying to protect our country 6000 miles away in the middle east when we should be using that money to secure our boarders at home like building the wall and strengthening national security at home on our own land and pump the excess money to compete with china infrastructure wise and technologically. Let the middle east deal with their damn problems on their own for god sake. Yet we are giving almost 7 billion to Israel to protect themselves every year and we can't get 5.7 billion approved to build a wall to protect ourselves at home. It's absolutely craziness to what our foreign policy has become.

I am from Turkey. Kurds are not outcasted in our country but PKK (A Terrorist organisation claiming thy protect kurdish rights) are doing drug trading taking young kids from villages without their parents permission to raise them as one of them attacking Turkish polish stations in rural areas bombing military vehicles; is a problem for our country for decades.

USA provides them weapon to fight against ISIS but weaponising one terrorist organisation to destroy the other one is not the solution

Am.... let Israel protect themselves. Cut their funding for one year and let us build the wall, they they could continue giving the money to Israel after. No one said build a border between Canada and the US and Trump won the election on the notion that he was gonna build the wall on the mexico-US border. You may say building the wall won't do anything for the US but so does giving Israel 7 billion dollars a year. That's the point i'm making. I rather waste money here at home instead of giving it away to other countries plain and simple.
