It must have been hard for her bc probably she wanted to move away from that subject but I'm really glad and proud she finally has spoken out :kara:

well, DWUW was a "sharp, sharp right," to quote her NBoR speech, when they probably told her left, and she did the exact opposite.

i'm glad the song is gone; never cared too much for it.

this is just another example of how transparent she is. you can clearly see the issues she cares and is compassionate about.

she's in a more balanced and optimal mental space right now, which shines through both her career and personal life. the ironic downside is that her enigmatic aura, if you will, and her unreachable artistic hights are gone (which is even more ironic because she's on top of the world once again, repeaking). don't get me wrong: they were never really there but their illusion at least was because we knew so much less about her. well, the public got what it wanted: the girl behind the aura.

i still love her, though. it's just that the gagz magic is a little bit gone. and it's okay. even for the better in terms of mental health, probably.

From the top of my head, I cannot recall if R. Kelly's lyrics were offensive. Could Gaga and Christina do another version where Christina sings R. Kelly's verses?

Honestly, I don't understand some of you making comments like, "Oh no, she just keeps paying dust to the ARTPOP era" or "But it's such a good song!" We already know how painful and difficult the ARTPOP era was for her. She was basically blitzed out of her mind on drugs when she was making the album, and then she had to deal with so many personal and career upheavals after the album was released. She even reaffirmed in this post that she was in a very dark place at that time. DWUW is a problematic song that is causing her pain, so if she wants to delete it from her discography, then OK. Goodness knows how many of you have bitched about other songs you wish she would forget about, so take a note from Elsa, and let it go.

This entire thread for some reason has me speechless. :(

She shouldn't. In that case he'd be credited since he wrote those lyrics. He'd get money from it. The best thing she could do is to replace it with the Xtina version

I'm so proud of her removing it. She shouldn't keep the song anymore, not even the Solo or Xtina version because R Kelly is credited for writing. I never really cared about the song too though it had a dope beat.

DWUW is and always has been musically a masterpiece for me. I remember stannin this song Bad Romance level like. However I'm proud she's removing it officially from her Discography (that's what she did on live-tours anyway). She should have done it sooner but at least it's happening now.

Also shook this was actually about her sexual asault, I always thought it was about the media.

It just makes me sad that she looks back at her younger self as being "explicitly twisted in (her) thinking" because even though it was a dark time, I think she was still incredibly smart and full of integrity...but now she's kind of dismissing her former self like "oh I was crazy back then" therefore everything she did at the time was stupid, or something? It kills me thinking that she hates herself for doing something she loved at the time, when she really was just expressing herself...and it's her right to. Does anyone agree with me/get what I'm saying?

DWUW is arguably one of the most meaningful tracks on ARTPOP - it was about resilience for goodness' sake! About how the media can say anything about you but they will never own you!! Now that she's removing it everywhere...it kind of defeats the purpose of the song. It's more just the fact that his vocals are featured on it...

I'm so proud of her for saying something, but I don't know why but the extra move to get rid of it just messes me up. Like I can't believe she has to remove a piece of her art from the world because of someone else's mistake...it just breaks my heart. :messga:

Not me:

Being smart doesn’t mean being good, you can be knowledgeable of how to be destructive. And yeah she still has intengrity bc she was being honest then, and honest now... it’s just that her perception changed.

She obviously says she hates that she made that song... and was in a dark place then, so she probably didn’t love the song that much either. The only thing she really did was express herself thru music, which she still does, so nothing of value was lost to her.

and, no, the song has a deeper meaning about trusting your gut and yourself, over the media. it just happens to be the media often gets **** twisted (sometimes on purpose) so she’s saying **** that. It’s not a blatant “**** media” song. She happens to agree with what they’re saying so that’s why she feels this way rn. The media only added heat... not a narrative.

So yeah in conclusion, the mistake is both of their fault. Not saying whose to blame more, bc irrelevant tbh. Plus the song is still available on the internet so download away, Gaga officially doesn’t care now

Hope this makes you feel better <3

i‘m proud of her. i don‘t think she had to comment on this but they way she said it, i‘m glad she did. it goes to show once again what a bad place she was in during the ARTPOP era. i‘m glad she‘s better now.

(i too hope that the x-tina version stays, i‘ve replaced r. kelly’s versions anyway)

Well, that’s it. The song is immortal now. It’s now the stuff of legend and urban myth. Future generations who discover the song won’t have any idea the controversy it generated in early 2019. Glad she put this issue to rest. I love the song and always will, because I know what it means and I know what it means to her. ARTPOP was never meant to be...

if i bought the song on itunes back then, will it disappear as well from my list?

It’ll still be Available to download via your purchase history, but it’ll be removed from its listing so no new people can buy it.

Removing the song completely is a bit too much :air:

My favourite song of hers, even the R Kelly version :selena:

It’s still on the internet. She can’t completely remove it

And I agree, no matter how intended, "Do what you want wih my body" is a horrible message (I know it's a metaphor and not meant literally, but still...). I just read the book "Brave" by Rose McGowan and it teached me a lot on how twisted victims of sexual abuse get manipulated into thinking they have to sell themselves and need to be sexy.

I have to puke. Something in 2012-2013 happened to trigger her this badly, bc from all her previous statements, it sounded like she was violated pre The Fame era :(
