"During the recording of my album ARTPOP, I had a song which myself and management felt could benefit from a guest spot. Like many others, I utilized the talent of R. Kelly and had nothing but a positive working experience with him. During that time a few things went on behind the scenes resulting in my change of management as well as truly accepting and coming to terms with my own history of sexual abuse. It took a long time to get through that pain and it is a pain I still suffer through. Looking back, perhaps it was an unfortunate choice to include him on my album. The truth is, this is bigger than a song and bigger than music. This is about a man and the lives of real women and I think the conversation should be about that and not a song that was done years ago. Thank you- xoxo, Joanne'

Well it works!

Who cares. It's a statement that acknowledges her choice while also reminding that she suffers too.  Its perfect. Lol

I still can't figure out why the 'cancelling' culture prevails these days. Whatever she says, she is about to get dragged.

Spoiler

Not to mention, R. Kelly is technically presumed innocent until proven guilty.  :toofunny:

color me confused, but as a sexual assault victim, her statement is kind of wishy washy - perhaps it was an unfortanate choice.

And then she deflects to her sexual abuse experience and wants us to feel sorry her? How is that empowering her and other victims?

Did everybody and their mothers wake up today, telephoned each other, and agreed to start writing needlessly incriminating articles toward someone who has had her own trauma related to the very same thing those articles are about or what?

exactly this all seems very calculated, part of me thinks it is a hit on her oscar chances

Well its not HER statement...its me trying to find a statement she could use. Lol

An unfortunate choice was worded that way to not throw everything out the window while also accepting the fact that it wasnt a great idea.

If she says something, she will be dragged.

If she doesn't, she will be dragged.

The trick is figuring out which drag does less damage.

Which competing movie studio is responsible for this?

LG needs to hire Taylor Swift's people.

I hope they fix this.

We would finally see her in a wig with bangs in a music video again ☹️ Why couldn‘t she collaborate with The Weeknd or someone else on that song

it‘s my favorite song on the album

Ikr!

I would've loved to hear Miguel on it.

Red wine, cheap perfume and a filthy pout.

they keep say 'fans' but her fans really aren't asking her to speak up

I think we are. I am a fan and I am.

She is a great woman and has done so much for sexual assault survivors including me. This will only help her in the long term. Say something meaningful, be done with it. People might react negatively at first but they'll forget and only remember that she apologized.

I still want to see the full video tho :selena:

All this mess aside, I've always found the video (or the bits of it) super cheap and tacky. Like MR level cheap :air:
