GoldDerby experts still predict Gaga will win BA. Why?

A lot of them actually haven't updated their predictions since last night, so the predictions right now aren't exactly representative of what the voters think right now.

Honestly, I could either see Olivia Colman or Glenn Close winning Best Actress at the Oscars right now. If Gaga has a chance, she'll need to win either the Critic's or the SAG Awards.

Honestly, I don't see Gaga winning for BA at the Oscars. That being said, is there a possibility that Coleman and Close could split the votes?

I never thought of it this way, and it is so true. Her acting performance radiates through that song. She transcends being just a musician in that moment (as she always does) and becomes Ally. It's a way to reward her acting job as well.

It's really a toss-up, in my opinion. Obviously, people have been predicting that Gaga would win for a while now, but now that Colman and Close have won their categories at the GG, it's really anyone's game. 

Right now, the important thing to pay attention to is the narrative. It could go one of two ways: 1) With Close and Colman winning, it gives them more attention, which in turn tells voters "Hey, those two won their categories, so they should also win an Oscar. Plus, Close is soooo overdue for an Oscar, we might as well give it to her." or 2) Because Close and Colman won their categories, the attention now is on ASIB and how 'snubbed' it was. This could potentially tell Oscar votes "Hey, Colman and Close won their categories, and BR won Best Picture, so why not let ASIB win some?"

You guys should chill and wait. It's kind of funny how most of you seem to think Gaga stands no chance now just because she lost 1 award! You really don't know what will happen at the Oscars.

We were so sure TIHTY was getting it and it didn't. Surprises and unexpected winners happen frequently. Gaga is getting a BA nomination and that should be enough for her to get votes, just don't say things like "She has no chances now" because it's not true or "She's getting it, I'm 100% sure" because there's a high possibility you'll be disappointed.

well maybe coleman and close will suffer split voting and in the end gaga walks away with the oscar  

i still feel as though a nomination for BA is a huge win and gaga will be more than happy to be recognized as a serious actress by the academy. she herself knows she can't win them all and every actress in the race deserves it tbh. She's 99.9% surely getting an oscar for shallow anyway. I just hope bradley gets some awards since this is his passion project that he worked so hard for

It's so hard to try and figure out what will happen! I think Close will take it because she has been shut out so many times...but I'm just not totally sure. I mean, ASIB in the eyes of many in the industry was absolutely snubbed. That may work in Cooper and Gaga's favor. Or voters will just jump ship. It's still anyones game, I think. I feel like there is a definite possibility that two well respected veteran actresses may split the academy's votes.

I'm just hoping that she's gonna get nominated for best actress at the Oscars, that would be a huge achievement on itself (I mean she's gonna be only the 5th musician to be nominated for best actress at the Oscar, that's how huge it is) and TIHTY didn't really had that much chances as some may think back then because Sam Smith won the Globe for BOS back then and winning this pretty much guarantees you the win at the Oscar which by the way Gaga won it last night.
