I doubt GG have seen "The Wife" (Glenn Close)

EDIT1: When I said "overdue", I mean Oscars not GG. I know she has had 2 GG,but no one remember or care about GG winning history.

EDIT2: Umm.....Those who disagreed with me better be the ones that have seen "the Wife" :reductive:

Glenn Close delivered a powerful speech today and won for "the Wife."

However, I don't think every GG member has already seen that film.:trollga:

I believe some of them voted for Close just because the whole "overdue" thing.:trollga:

I hope Oscars goes to Olivia Colman cuz ...

if Gaga wins, there will be so many haters saying "she does not deserve" or something really mean like that

if Close wins, we won't remember what performance wins her an Oscars (unlike her iconic ones such as "Fatal Attraction")

....we will only think of that win as an "overdue" reward. She wouldn't even be nominated for this performance if she weren't Glenn.

Actually, if they really voted by the performances, Nicole Kidman would be the winner tonight.:stalkga:

I have seen "the Wife".......it's absolutely not among Close's best performances.

Fun fact. I recently met a Glen and I was surprised when he told me because I always thought Glen was a feminine name. Especially after reading Glenn as a competitor for Gaga on this cult site so many times. :ladyhaha:

Why assume something like that? The Wife was a great film, it was acclaimed, it scored her tons of nominations on tons of award shows, yeah it wasn't that successful but it didn't have a large target audience  That doesn't mean a film like that gets overlooked. The Favourite didn't do much better and Olman is still nominated for like every award show in the business. And deservedly so.

The Wife was average at best, Close saved it with her performance.

When it comes down to it, Gaga won just as much as Close did. :excited:

That's the irony of Award shows.... they want to create surprises and don't award the people we'd expect, and then end up backpedaling when they realize they haven't awarded legends in decades. Like, take Kate Winslet for instance... literally nobody remembers The Reader, and yet that's the film she got the Oscar for.

Well,  if Gaga doesn't win BA for Oscars (I doubt she will)  I can still look forward to many obscure movies that she will be starring in the future then!

Right :laughga: But I really want her to go the Audrey Hepburn road and get it for her first lead movie role. Imo, there's still hope: the Academy and the HFPA are 2 different types of crowd.

While she was amazing in The Wife (great movie too), she did a more superior work on all five seasons of Damages (for which she also won a GG back in 2008) and of course, Fatal Attraction. Nonetheless I'm incredibly happy for her win, she deserved it!
