I agree in the very beginning when this whole thing broke out, he didn't handle it the best. However, he's since apologized and that's really all anyone could ask for at this moment. We can't change the past, and I'm sure he realizes that now.

And if you can't see that the things he said were literally said a decade ago, I can't help you either. He acknowledged he screwed up, he's apologized numerous times, and that's all you can do.

The article's author was singling out Ellen because she is a white, cisgender woman. I made it a point to say that I'm an LGBTQ person of color because the article criticized Ellen for speaking for the LGBTQ/ LGBTQ POC community when the reality is I agree with her.

The thing is, he really didn’t. He refused to apologise for his past tweets, which is why the academy dropped him. It was only after he realised what a mess he was in that he actually issued an apology, which was clearly an empty one made to save face. 

None of this would have been an issue if he just apologised right out of the gate like the academy asked him to. It’s the fact that he refused to apologise that annoyed most people.

He's apologized numerous times in the past when the tweets were first brought up. The reason why he didn't apologize initially was because he's already apologized for them years ago.

a) Not all things he said were a year ago

b) He was old enough to know the repercussions of tweets. And despite 2011 being a different climate, common sense should have stopped him from posting it. But we all make unconscious decisions, I get that. The thing I don't get is why he didn't immediately repent. 

c) He claims the search of those tweets was an attack to him, therefore turning into the victim. He clearly isn't a victim. The thousands of viewers who don't want him are.

d) No matter what you are, it doesn't mean you don't represent the entire community.

a) I think you mean decade, but nevertheless, it still doesn't change the fact that he said stuff years ago that he now regrets. This is different from the Roseanne Barr incident. She said inappropriate and disgusting stuff and then the next day she tried to claim it was the meds and she's a "different person" now. Hart said his stuff years ago and has had the time to grow and change his beliefs.

b) While he was old enough to know what he was getting into, I do believe that the climate being different is a valid reason why he said those things. It doesn't change the fact that what he said was wrong, disgusting, and stupid, but you can't ignore the fact that society has changed a lot since then. Not only that, but he has the right to grow and change as an individual. If he doesn't believe those things now then why still attack him? Why not attack and go after people who currently are saying homophobic, racist, sexist, transphobic, xenophobic things?

c) To an extent, he is a victim. He is a victim of this social media "witch hunt" which disguises itself as people trying to "expose" people for their past. Now this certainly isn't as drastic as people who actually experience homophobia (I'm not trying to make that comparison), but people who are crucified for the stuff they've said years ago are, to an extent, victims.

d) Well, that's true.
