I just don't need Hart using this controversy as a mode of promotion for his new movie and possibly getting the gig, that he quit from, back. That's gross.

That's true. However, I just find this article to be really annoying, quite frankly. I absolutely love Ellen, and I believe she's done a lot for not just the LGBTQ community, but for people in general. It just annoys me when people try and attack her for her own opinion. I mean, if you're allowed to dislike Kevin Hart, why isn't she allowed to support him? Supporting someone is subjective.

I also just hate dividing the LGBTQ community up more. This "Oh, she's a cisgender white woman, so she doesn't know what's it's truly like to 'suffer'" thing is just ridiculous to me. We shouldn't divide and section off people when we're all really in the same boat. We all know what it's like to feel misunderstood, or rejected, or shunned, etc. Just because she's a celebrity doesn't mean that she's free from it all, on the contrary, she might have had it "harder" than a lot of people because she's a celebrity.

Just as the article says, Kevin Hart's Anti LGBT rhethoric has been mainly aimed at specifically black LGBT people, specifically gay black people and gay transwomen. They're just pointing out that an actual black person trying to publically make amends/talk this out would seem way less inappropriate.

Of course she's allowed to, just like everyone else. The issue is that she's not allowed to forgive him on the behalf of the whole community. That's what it came across like in the video. I think that's the author's main concern.

I mean, I didn't see it as that at all. I just saw it as Ellen, herself, supporting Hart. If anything, the author was the one coming up with that notion.

As disgusting and inappropriate as his comments were, as a LGBTQ person of color, I'm not offended by them because those were comments made a decade ago, and they're not representative his character today.

How can we prove this though? Has he been seen hanging out with gays or lesbians? Donated for the cause? Or did stand up and put the LGBT on a pedestal rather a punchline?

Because as much as we don't like to confront it, it significantly affects our experience of the world and privilege is real. Some people do take it too far or use these terms without understanding the implications but that's not always the case.

Not when Ellen literally explicitly discounted everyone who didn't forgive him as a hater or troll. Fine to have her opinion. She attacked others for theirs. So she's getting the same in return.

He's on Ellen's show, is he not? He said he and her had dinner after the Oscars. I mean, you don't have to hang out with LGBTQ people, donate, or publically say you support them in order to not be homophobic.

That, I agree with, but perhaps she was more so saying that towards the people who brought up the tweets in the first place. In that sense, she has a point. No one goes digging through someone's old tweets from 10-10+ years ago.

That is true, but my argument is valid for many reasons... how about Trump? He can say one thing, but how do we validate it’s true. We know how ppls careers get affected by such controversies. Going on Ellen would be an EASY way to squash backlash. Mind you, I see your point. In this moment it’s not easy to decipher if someones words and simple actions warrent a change of heart.

Yeah that's fair. I don't agree with digging up tweets either. 

But the fact that someone trolled wasn't really an excuse for how he didn't seem sorry at all. I don't wanna get into the whole thing but we can agree to disagree to a degree.

I mean, that's true. Perhaps he could just be saying he isn't homophobic when he, in fact, might be, but from what I saw on Ellen, he seemed genuine. He knows what he said was wrong, and he's apologized in the past for it. There is literally nothing he can do besides apologize, and he's done that recently too.

Trump is different. We can fact check the stuff he says pretty easily. With Hart, it's about his character.
