Brazil is already one of the most dangerous countries for transsexual women. They get murdered there often with no proper investigations later for who murdered them...this will only get worse now. ugh

This global wave of alt-right repressive political parties, all of whom are proudly running on platforms of nationalism, authoritarianism and/or overt bigotry (e.g., Bolsonaro, Trump and the GOP, Putin, May’s party and the Brexit debacle, Duterte, etc.), is a terrifying trend.

All my love to my LGBTQ brothers and sisters in Brazil. No matter what your government claims, never forget that you are a valuable human being deserving of freedom, love and peace.

Take solace in knowing you are on the right side of history. Sincerely wishing all of you the opportunity to love freely, without judgment or consequence. One day that will be the reality, but I'm so sorry for the persecution you are forced to suffer until then. Intolerance and ignorance are arguably among the very worst qualities human beings possess.

Hey! You guys wanna take a wild guess as to which government considers Bolsonaro a ”like-minded” ally?!

Spoiler:

”White House national security adviser John Bolton on Thursday praised Jair Bolsonaro, the bombastic, far-right nationalist who triumphed in Brazil’s presidential election over the weekend, calling him a ’like-minded’ partner whose ascent should be seen as a welcome development in the region.

Bolsonaro is a legislator whose presidential campaign was punctuated by openly racist, sexist and homophobic comments he made — for instance, saying he would rather his son die than be gay. President Donald Trump also previously congratulated Bolsonaro on his election.”

(Source: https://www.politico.com/story/2018/11/01/bolton-brazil-bolsonaro-partner-954629)

Absolutely sick. The self-proclaimed ”beacon of the free world” is only interested in standing by Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, North Korea, China and now Brazil, all of which have either recently attacked our nation and/or exhibit appalling human rights violations.

Neither of our North American neighbors, on either the northern or southern border, want anything to do with us anymore. President Macron, the leader of our oldest existing ally, made it clear a few months prior he was officially done with Trump's bullshit, and Chancellor Merkel explicitly said the US under Trump is no longer an ally Germany can continue to trust (which makes perfect sense, considering his dumbass blabbed an ally’s top military secrets to Russian authorities immediately upon having heard it).

During the eight years of President Obama’s presidency, the US approval rating finally recovered from the previous low precipitated by George WMD Bush’s disastrous tenure, but now thanks to the even more incompetent and ignorant Trump, the US has its lowest approval rating worldwide in history. In a 2018 poll, the majority of the world indicated they no longer see the US as the leader of the free world/greatest superpower for the very first time, but rather perceive China as having usurped that role following Trump’s election.

(Sources:

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/10/09/how-the-world-views-the-u-s-and-its-president-in-9-charts/)

Further, while people here in the US constantly act (understandably) shocked regarding Trump’s staggering stupidity, blatant bigotry, malignant narcissism and boorish tweets, I think most still fail to grasp the reality of the gravity of the situation we are in. This isn’t something that is going to be fixed simply by electing a new POTUS next year. It’s going to get really ugly before finally getting better, and not just in the US either. It’s really an alarming sociopolitical trend occurring worldwide that I just can’t imagine any relatively simple solution would be capable of eradicating.

More awful things he has said:

• “I had four sons, but then I had a moment of weakness, and the fifth was a girl.”

• “I’m not going to rape you, because you’re very ugly” – to a female representative in Congress.

• “I’d rather have my son die in a car accidentthan have him show up dating some guy.”

• “I’m pro-torture, and the people are too.”

• “They don’t do anything. I don’t think they’re even good for procreation any more” – referring to quilombolas, the black descendants of rebel African slaves.

• “You can be sure that if I get there [the presidency], there’ll be no money for NGOs. If it’s up to me, every citizen will have a gun at home. Not one centimetre will be demarcated for indigenous reserves or quilombolas.”

• “You won’t change anything in this country through voting – nothing, absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, you’ll only change things by having a civil war and doing the work the military regime didn’t do. Killing 30,000, starting with FHC [former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso]. Killing. If a few innocent people die, that’s alright.”

Bolsonaro has also said he will not accept the election result unless he is the winner – only to backtrack after a negative reaction.

I am just going to re-up this and leave it at that.

To be quite honest, I don't think it is likely a good or productive idea to engage with these people online. Their propaganda is dangerous and giving them attention on the internet gives them a platform; better to combat this in person with civility and measure.

I already responded to it but AS ALWAYS you guys don't even care about the opinion of others outside your little bubble

And I'm also gonna leave it at that if you people want to keep believing what you do, then go for it, I'll not keep trying to talk to someone that doesn't wants to have a conversation, that doesn't even care for others points of view and just insults. The only person that was gentle was Sneaky Oliver (but he/she didn't respond to me anymore, sadly) which he/she is also brazilian, and thats a difference I really can see between Americans and Brazilians, we brazilians are more kind, more nice, more giving and less stupid with other people, but well, What can I do, I just hope that all of you have a good night and also, a good life.

I'm not a troll, you just believe everything media says, And thats okay, but don't come and say to me that Bolsonaro said he is homophobic because that a thing that he NEVER did, he always said he's not homophobic and that you do what you want

I know this "I'm not homophobic, but..." thing really well. My mom is exactly like it.

The simple truth is that bigots doesn't like to be called bigots and to admit their bigotry, they aways try to euphemize all their opinions so people will start to doubt about the truthfulness of their preconceptions.

The "Ideologia de genero" concept is just an example of that, they try to pass as the victims, saying LGBT people want to "convert" everyone with their "agenda", so they can talk **** about us, and everyone will applaud this, since for them, we are shoving our sexuality down their throats, when in reality, all we want right now is not even more rights, but just the safety of not having what we conquered taken from us.

Brazilian people want change so much that they will twist the reality and avoid the clear truth, defending whatever piece of shıt just because they don't want PT anymore.

Call me what you want honey, but saying Bolsonaro isn't homophobic is just delusional.

I found an article written by a popular Brazilian newspaper which also referenced the president’s homophobic and racist comments. The original article is written in Portuguese, so I am just posting the English translation via Google:

“Jair Bolsonaro again criticizes Preta Gil. This time, the federal deputy does it in an interview with Playboy. The question is whether he, heterosexual, believes that practicing **** sex with his wife is an act of promiscuity. Here's the answer: ‘What happens between four walls with a couple is their preference. The promiscuity of Preta Gil is on her blog. She says she's bisexual, says that in her house, heterosexuals were the exception.’

The deputy went on to be harassed in March, after he appeared in the ‘CQC’ program. Preta Gil asked in the air what he would do if his son dated a black woman. He replied that he did not take this risk since his children were well-educated. The singer opened a process of racial crime against the deputy.”

“Check out other excerpts from the interview:”

"If a homosexual couple comes to live with me, it will devalue my home! If they walk hand in hand and kiss, it devalues my home!”

"In the barracks, when a soldier had a problem, I would show him a truncheon written 'psychologist'. Soon the problems were resolved " (This is referring to using physical punishment/torture).

"I would be incapable of loving a homosexual child. I will not give a hypocrite here: I prefer that my son die in an accident than to appear around with a mustached man. For me he will have died anyway "

Original article: https://m.extra.globo.com/famosos/deputado-jair-bolsonaro-fala-da-promiscuidade-de-preta-gil-declara-que-seria-incapaz-de-amar-um-filho-homossexual-em-entrevista-1980933.html

Further, the nonpartisan and highly respected investigative journalistic outlet Politico, known primarily for their vigorous award-winning fact-checking, published an article regarding Bolsonaro following his election, and they also referenced his racist, homophobic and misogynistic statements:

Along the way, Bolsonaro’s candidacy also raised serious concerns that he would roll back civil rights and weaken institutions in what remains a young democracy. He frequently disparaged women, gays and blacks, and said he would name military men to his Cabinet.

Minutes after he was elected, several international human rights groups put out statements demanding that Bolsonaro respect Brazil’s democracy.

In a highly unusual moment earlier Sunday, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Jose Dias Toffoli, read out part of the Constitution to reporters after he voted.

‘The future president must respect institutions, must respect democracy, the rule of law, the judiciary branch, the national Congress and the legislative branch,’ Toffoli said in remarks many took to be a rebuke of Bolsonaro and his more extreme positions.”

Source: https://www.politico.com/story/2018/10/28/brazil-president-election-bolsonaro-944959

And finally, here is an extremely lengthy list of quotes comprised of all the many, many disgusting and intolerant things he has said, and they are all accompanied by a link to their original source (e.g., interview, etc). Especially considering Brazil is the ninth largest economy in the world, the new president is shockingly homophobic and sexist (like, he seriously even makes Trump/the current GOP look semi-tolerant and progressive in comparison):

https://en.m.wikiquote.org/wiki/Jair_Bolsonaro

In short, there’s absolutely no defending this man; he is a horrible person. He’s essentially the exact embodiment of how Trump would behave, if the latter had zero checks and balances.

Also, everyone should read the following article: “The Most Misogynistic, Hateful Elected Official in the Democratic World: Brazil’s Jair Bolsonaro.” It actually contains video of the new Brazilian president screaming at a congresswoman in the middle of the chamber that she “wasn’t good enough for him to rape her.”
