No mention of Gaga

Who are your biggest female inspirations?

Oh man! I grew up listening to Madonna, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. But also I look up to my mum. She’s really taught me everything I know.

I’m going to put you on the spot and ask you what your favourite Madonna song is.

Oh my God! There’s so many. Like A Prayer. Every time that comes on my body just shakes! Though I can’t just contain it to one. She’s just so incredible. She’s very unapologetic. She’s always open and free and that’s what I want everyone to feel.

Sounds like something an Ogh would say

Update: She is on James Corden for her first US TV performance tomorrow night then the today show on Friday.

She is clearly getting a huge industry push here in America. I can't help to notice the parallels to the promotion of Just Dance out of nowhere in 2008 (though more iconic at the time)

Really though I think she has potential to sky rocket. SbP is a catchy classic pop bop with a big chorus that I think A LOT of people are missing hearing these days.

okay, but have you heard "Just Dance"? :selena:

These songs are both songs that went against current sounds and are basic. But that's what people gotta do to get that first hit.

But Just Dance was great when it first came out. It was so different to what we were all used to.

Sweet but Psycho is just another generic pop song. It's catchy but it's not new or groundbreaking.

I wonder if TV performances will boost her and the song enough. 2019 is very different from 2008 and people aren’t tuning in as much to these late night shows anymore(unless Ariana is on for the 100th time :ladyhaha:).

Then again this is probably one of the few things she can do to get more exposure. She didn’t have the luxury of being a Disney/Nickelodeon kid or reality tv personality. :/ I wish her the best though. If Halsey was able to breakout out with similar setbacks then so can she.

I think Sweet But Psycho has a different sound than other pop girl's songs right now. It's still pop obvi, but deviates a bit in sound and production.

And Just Dance wasn't the groundbreaking song. That was Poker Face. Just Dance sounded like a typical Rihanna dance track at the time.

Ava Max's song may sound different to what's out now but it sounds very much like it could have come out between 2009 and 2012.

Just Dance was a groundbreaking song. It had a bit of an odd structure and people went crazy for it. I don't see the Rihanna comparison tbh.

i think that's kind of why it's getting so much success, let's be honest, pop in 2009-2012 was actually pretty decent :emma:

Just Dance isn't a bad song, but in no way is/was groundbreaking. Poker Face is THAT BITCH.

Yeah but for a debut single. It's a much better debut than Ava Max's.

Pop back then then had such light fluffy sound whereas just dance was heavier imo
