4th album curse logical explanation

I think it just so happens that after 3 massive exhausting album rollouts, that’s the time when an artist loses creative drive for awhile resulting to an underwhelming product, some management takes advantage of the artist and milks as much money as possible which overworks them and kills the entire era launch momentum, critics & fans get bored with the overexposure, an artist get too confident after 3 successful eras and thinks everything they put out no matter what it is, becomes a hit.

Troy ruined ARTPOP, Gaga did not know what she was doing anymore. The Grammys snubbed RED. Justin gave up with the remaining Purpose tour dates. Katy said she had high expectations for Witness thinking everything she puts out will be accepted by the GP, Queen era had the same vibe too, except Katy still have some self respect, humbleness and composure left. Sweetener was a pharel mess and Ariana making a horrible decision being with Pete killed it basically, forcing her to rush Thank U, Next.

Taking a break after 3 successful eras before diving into a new one will truly help an artist get it all together first and avoid being rushed.

Adele is currently doing this right now.

And if she breaks the 4th album curse. Points will be proven.

RED was not 4th album curse just because it didn't win a Grammy
Purpose was Justin's peak, how can it be 4th album curse?!?!

Cause I’m talking about different aspects of the situation. If it did not fail commercially, there are still some holes into it like those things I’ve mentioned

There is no such thing as the fourth album curse :smh:

Sweetener is critically acclaimed and got Ari the biggest debut week of her career, Red was the second most successful album of the year in the world, Purpose was also hugely successful (fourth best selling in the world of that year), Like a Prayer exists (unanimously considered to be the peak of Madonna's momentum and/or artistic creativity), Mariah had her iconic Christmas album as her fourth record, Céline's fourth English album is still her best known and best selling one, Christina's Stripped is her most iconic and successful era, Grimes' Art Angels was her most critically acclaimed record and actually pushed her into mainstream awareness, Janelle's Dirty Computer album got massive acclaim and expanded her commercial success,... the list goes on.

Just a myth fans came up with for their disappointing fav.

A Hybrid

For pop artists, this seems logical. But artists of the other genres don’t even care about charts, neither do critics for them. Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino is Arctic Monkeys’ least successful album, but it’s also the most Grammy nominated one and objectively the most artistic one, and they seem like they’re having fun with it

and Suck It And See was very successful being their fourth album

Britney's 'In The Zone' album did very well and got her a Grammy for Toxic and the album is highly praised by fans.

Pretty much every era has some holes. Born This Way date cancellation, ANTI  had some tour dates that didn't sell out and won no grammys, Nicki's never won a grammy, but that doesn't mean those eras were bad.

I agree that this comes from super exposure for several straight years. That's why artists like rihanna do not know about failure, the more discreet they get along better one step at a time.

Sweetener was big tho. The singles did great.

They really didn't if you think about it. NTLTC had a great run but GIAW only spent 2 weeks in the top 10, peaking only at #8 and breathin' didn't even enter the top 10. TUN kinda makes sweetener look bigger than it really was.

The BTWB was meant to last a lot longer, but Gaga broke her hip in february 2013. She cancelled a lotta dates, inclucing the most important-Madison Square Garden in NYC, which was supposedly meant to be recorded for a DVD.

I do think it's the 4th album curse has a real base, in the sense that 4th album is more likely to underperform. Key word: more likely to underperform. The curse skipped and still skips artists, especially non-mainstream artists. Their case is special because most of the reasons you listed (too much spotlight, overexposure) don't apply to them.
